I haven't had the same problems previously. My conference call Friday, and all other phone calls last week, went off without a hitch. Today was when it all started for me, and I hope it's over (my test calls this evening to "933" have been crystal clear - a little VERY quiet hissing in the background which is unusual, but nothing that interferes with the call quality in any meaningful way). |

My wife works from home and depends on our Vonage line to dial into conference calls. We experienced the EXACT same issues with garbled voice yesterday. Strangely it only seemed to affect the calls made to some phone exchanges, we were able to call our cell phones fine. Can anyone explain what could cause these kinds of problems? If we were just using Vonage for personal home calls we'd probably just deal with the issues, but she has zero tolerance for problems with work. In general our service is OK but these kinds of issues are making us actually think of switching back to Ma Bell......... |

Bad voice quality can be in a number of places:
1. Defects in your telephone or home wiring. 2. Defects in your Vonage adapter. 3. Problems with your Internet connection. 4. Problems with Vonage's Internet connection at their gateway. 5. Problems with Vonage's VoIP-POTS gateways (that converts Voip to the Plain Old Telephone System (POTS) network. 6. Problems with the POTS network. 7. Problems with the telephone equipment on the other end of the call.
In this case, the problem was likely caused by either 4 or 5. Since you connect to a different gateway each time you make a call, and the selection of the gateway is determined in part by who you are calling, I would assume that sometimes we got a working gateway yesterday, and sometimes we got one that didn't work so well. |

That is what I figure as well. Hopefully their engineers are on top of it. Thanks for the response. |
