I tried Vonage for a week and had some problems so I decided to switch to my Cable Company service but now I'm being told that Vonage is not giving up my number. The problem lies with my name on my old Verizon account I had a Business name I work out of my house so when I went to Vonage I wanted to change it to a Residentail account Vonage said no problem well that is not the case. What they tell me is the service record still shows my company name and thats why there's a hangup with Brighthouse because they can not port over a Business name. So I called Vonage last Friday and they said no problem changing the service record well here it is a week later and still no go. When I call I get someone I don't understand with a thick accent. I was told this is what Vonage does to keep you going to another provider because it's no problem to change the service record. If anyone has any suggestions I would very much appreciate it I only have 3 more days for bringing this Router back to Circuit City and I started this transfer 3 weeks ago.

Thank's

This has been a nightmare still no luck porting my number out of Vonage. I get conflicting answers everytime I call Vonage & Brighthouse. There's no way to talk to someone at the Porting Dept at Vonage all you can do is email them and wait 3 days for a answer that don't make sense. I guess next if I get no help I will try to go back to Verizon hopefully they won't have a hard time getting my number back.

Well still no go so beware everyone if you have a number you want to keep and you want to try Vonage out do not port your number to them because they will not let you have your number back. I guess my next step is to call FCC and see what they can do for me.

Hi there! Actually any Voip company COULD NOT hold back a number as it is against FCC policy. However if your info in prev provider and with your Vonage does not match you'd have a hard time porting out the number. Please make sure you get your facts straigthen out first. A tip always note down the address you used when you sign up for any Voip company so you won't have a prob should you switch to another company. Also if you have any intentions of porting out your number and to fasten it email to portout@vonage.com. Hope this helps. Cool

Thank's for the reply. It finally got done yesterday thank god. What was so frustrating was both Companys had bad communication trying to get this done. I'm thankful it's all done.

That's great! Now remember to note down the address you gave the new phone provider for future use should you switch to another phone company again. Good morning. Cool

I'm curious if during the time between requesting the port out of Vonage and the time it actually happened if you have any down time with Vonage? I put in my port request with Verizon Wireless today to take my business number I ported into Vonage initially. Scared to death I'm going to have more down time and loose customers.

Thanks

There was no downtime at all.Vonage gave me a virtual number and in about 5 days my phone was ported to Vonage. One minute I got a call through my Verizon line and 5 minutes later it was going through Vonage. Hope this helps.

Thanks Chet. When I ported IN to Vonage it was also that easy. I'm wondering about the port OUT though.

Make sure you don't cancel Vonage before the Portout. Just deal with the company you are porting too. My problem was with the service name on my verizon account when I ported to Vonage being a Business name. from the start if Brighthouse would of used the name on my service record it would of went faster. But being they don't do business accounts they would not use that name only my name.
