I have recently started experiencing some issues with my Vonage service. Within the last 2-3 mth i have been having problems with my service. During calls the other party complains about the call being extremely choppy and breaking of, also during this time my internet connection speed will drop down drastically to the speed of dial up if not worse. I usually have to reboot my router, modem and computer for things to get back to normal. This will last for a few minutes to several hrs before i have to reboot everything again. This is not the case if i connect directly to my modem or thru a different router a linksys bersr41. I have heard of several problems facing the rt31p2 routers Vonage sends out. Since i don't experience slow speed with my internet connection or any other problems while connected directly to the modem of other router iam left to believe that the RT31p2 may be hosed. Vonage claims since iam still within the 1st yr of server they are willing to replace the router, but before i do so i was wondering if it will be advisable to purchase just a regular phone adapter to use with my befsr41since i don't experience any issues while connected to the internet with that. I was looking into either getting the the VTech's ip8100 phone with built in adapter or the linksys pap2. I will appreciate any feedback or suggestions as to what others have experienced I will post my test result in a little while |

i'll advise you to call Vonage tech support department and let them check the device. asked them to upgrade some settings of the device and roll back the firmware if necessary. |

oh i see.!!!
did the agent change some settings on your device??
better asked for Advance Tech support.
because choppy audio happens because of some settings are inaccurate. It's like an equalizer..you need to adjust to have a good sound quality. |

make sure you are not down loading heavily while on calls.the other thing is call Vonage and check if your PA is running on latest firmware.Put the bandwidth saver to normal and check if it works. Also run this test when the problem happens and donot reboot before taking the results. If you can find a time frame how often this occurs then you can connect pc to modem and run the test after that time so that we can find what is the internet status after stipulated time.

spoke with Vonage and they put me thru the regular routine. my firmware is the latest too. those two results are were talked right after reboot and when the and when the problem started. Iam to the point of dumping that router and possibly doing the phone adapter. i have already checked firmware which is up to date, gone thru router settings with Vonage tech also. iam hoping to have the device replace or if i have to go purchase i will like to know what others recommend.
i can post a new set of results if you would like |

seems quality is not always equal with Linksys adapters..
I had bought a WRT54GP2 at staples and had all sort of problems with the unit (crappy quality, router reboot...do a search on this adapter in the forums...)
I return the router at staples..and didn't take long to experiment the same problems again...
No more warranty a year after, fed up of this router I call Vonage support and complain about the adapter and service ..they offer to send a different model as replacement; free
they send me a WRTP54G, since then I never had any real issues |

yeah right...and do you know that rolling back of firmware can help you resolve the issue? |

That says it all. Vonage uses codec that takes up 90000bps and really need >75% qos number. Frankly your broadband service is horrible. |
