I am thinking about switching from Verizon to Vonage. Are there any suggestions or information that you could pass on to me about Vonage? Like reasons why I should switch or what not.

Hi Kevin27WV - Welcome to the forum. If you do a search of the forum's postings, you'll find this question has been asked and answered quite a few times before.

I bought my router and signed up for service at Best Buy last month. They were running a $90 rebate with it, not too shabby. Verizon transferred my number in less then a week. I did the transfer all on line at Vonage.com, which is a super clean and easy to navigate site. Major selling point for me. Check it out.

I already had a cordless phone with remote handsets (http://www.twacomm.com/info/4200_Series.htm), so i am not stuck with just one phone. There is a way to wire your whole house, but I’m not ready to tackle that yet.. Maybe when I move to a new place.. And now my number will follow me where ever I go too.

I got the 500 minute plan. I will continue to use my cell to make most of my calls. Audio is just as clear as before and even better then my cell with Cingular. I down graded my Verizon package to just DSL (a “naked” or “dry” line) once my number transferred. My bill should drop from $75 to about $35-$40.. that’s cool with me. All those extra fees and charges are annoying.

The only knock I have so far, and it’s pretty minor, is with the caller ID. Apparently your outgoing calls will only give your #, not your name. And so far incoming calls don’t give as much info as Verizon did. Half the time it’s only the # and location?? However, if you have known numbers programmed in your phone(s), the name will appear that way. 911 is a little odd too, but it works.

I am going to help my parents switch, so I would definitely recommend it. Geez, I sound like a salesmen. Anyway, good luck and happy savings.

I appreciate the helpful information on my question as I wasnt having much luck in searching the vast Vonage forums. I have to get away from "THE MACHINE" VERIZON it cost too much and the DSL here is overrated. I am thinking about switching to cable internet and Vonage so all information i can gather first will greatly help me in the decision.

I obviously know you can go to www.vonage.com and read about Vonage. I did that already and I wanted to hear some information from actual users of Vonage not their fluffed up website BS.
