I have the current configuration: Motorola Surfboard SBG900 Modem/Wireless router >Linksys RT31P2 Broadband router >phone line and HP 7310 All-in-One printer.
Problem: I can only send jobs to the printer through my wireless laptop when it is connected DIRECTLY to the Motorola Modem/Wireless router. (Configuration: SBG900>HP 7310 via ethernet) This means I must unplug my RT31P2 every time I want to print (and not be able to make/receive calls)
I cannot see the printer on the network (nor print to it) when it is connected to the Linksys router.
So right now, I can either make a phone call OR print.
I am not an expert by any means, and would appreciate a clear explanation as to how I can get my printer recognized and send jobs via the wireless network while being able to make calls at the same time. |

I see you've re-posted this from the hard wiring forum. That was the right thing to do, but please take a look at the answer that I left over there. |

| Quote: | | Or just try this. Plug your laptop directly into the RT31P2 and log on to the admin page. |
Not sure what I am doing wrong here, but I have cable internet so which ethernet port am I supposed to connect the laptop to? I tried plugging it into a couple different places but couldn't get to the admin page of the linksys router. |

You should be plugging it in to one of the three LAN ports on the RT31P2. You don't need to be connected to the internet service at all for this step. |

The most importent problem is........... your sbg900 modem will be giving out an ip in the range 192.168.1.x and the Vonage in a range 192.168.15.x so it clearly says that your laptop is not in the same network, the laptop will be in 192.168.1.x and the printer(when connected to Vonage) is 192.168.15.x, so it wont connect, whereas when connected to sbg900 both are in the same range so it works fine............
All you have to do is assign a static on the rt31p2 in the range ip-192.168.1.x (or whatever is the range of sbg900) and then everything should be working fine................ |

ok 1. on ur laptop- go to start>>run>>type cmd>>hit ok>>on the black win type ipconfig>>get the ip address, def gateway and the sub mask on a paper............. the4 ip would be 192.168.x.y and the def gat-192.168.x.1 2. connect the laptop hard wired to your rt31p2>>on the explorer add bar type, 192.168.15.1>>username-admin, pass-admin>>loggin>>on the status page there is an internet conn type-obtain an ip aut>>hit the scroll down bar make it static>> put the ip as 192.168.y.125(make sure not the same as on laptop), and the same sub mask and def gateway as your laptop......... 3. reboot the network it should work fine........... to reboot switch off all devices and after 2 mins switch on the sbg first, then the rt31p2 after 2 mins and then the laptop and the printer...............
NOTE: in case u have done a port forwarding or a dmz on the sbg jus mention it................ |

You need to get the DNS server address's from ISp, or use the standard 4.2.2.1 - 4.2.2.6 for now if you wish. |
