Post subject: Printer won't work when routed through RT31P2
I have the current configuration:
Motorola Surfboard SBG900 Modem/Wireless router
>Linksys RT31P2 Broadband router
>phone line and HP 7310 All-in-One printer.
Problem: I can only send jobs to the printer through my wireless laptop when it is connected DIRECTLY to the Motorola Modem/Wireless router. (Configuration: SBG900>HP 7310 via ethernet) This means I must unplug my RT31P2 every time I want to print (and not be able to make/receive calls)
I cannot see the printer on the network (nor print to it) when it is connected to the Linksys router.
So right now, I can either make a phone call OR print.
I am not an expert by any means, and would appreciate a clear explanation as to how I can get my printer recognized and send jobs via the wireless network while being able to make calls at the same time.

The problem is that the printer and your laptop are on different sub-nets. You might want to take a look at this thread discussing bridge mode:

Or just try this. Plug your laptop directly into the RT31P2 and log on to the admin page. Disable the DHCP function in the RT31P2. Log off and unplug the laptop. Now change the cabling on the RT31P2 so that the cable from the modem/router to the RT31P2 goes to a LAN port on the RT31P2 instead of the WAN (internet) port. Run another cable from the RT31P2 WAN port to one of its own LAN ports. Plug the printer into the third RT31P2 LAN port. Re-boot everything and it should work.
