Today my phone port 1 was red. I have been having problems with the Vonage adapter and my computer commuicating with each other. I have already posted earlier under SixMan post. Since the port was red I just disconnected Vonage for now. Vonage has not work since I bought this new computer. If you know why the port was red and what I can do about it I would appreciate it. Thanks. |

if you have the motorola 2442, the red/ambar light means that you have voice messages waiting to be checked |

Is that what that means. I never knew that. Well I'am glad it wasn't anything serious. Thank you so much. Now if I could only use the phone. |

I'm still confused from both this post as well as your sixman post earlier.
What kind of cable modem do you have? Make and Model # please. Is it a combination router/modem?
does it have a firewall?
I see that you have a motorola vt2442 as your Vonage router but I am puzzled as to why you cannot get onto the motorola router web configuration. Is your computer connected directly to port 1 of your motorola vt2442? If so, then typing in 192.168.15.1 in your internet explorer should get you to the vt2442 web configuration page.
Also, I think there is an auto-negotiation issue with your vt2442 that is causing the slow down. Perhaps your new computer is using technology that your vt2442 cannot understand.
You might have to set up a fixed speed instead of leaving it as auto negotiate.
I had a similar problem but it was b/c my computer's NIC was really old and so I set it at 10mbps which would still be within your 6mbps download speeds. |

I don't understand why ever since you got a new pc, the Vonage device is not working... regardless of what you have BEHIND this router, nothing should change... well, supposedly.
like the poster above said, what is your ISP, are you using another router in this network? the Internet light on the Morotola device is blinking? |

Well, is the light solid red or blinking red? This makes a big difference.
If it is blinking red, then as stated above you have a voicemail.
If it is solid red, then your device failed the PSTN voltage check. If this is the case, do you have your Vonage device plugged into your home wiring? |

The light is a blinking orange a lot of men are color blind, where they can't see the orange that well, and it appears red to them. (I am lucky not to have that blindness.) If it's a SOLID DEEP RED not blinking, that means it detects home wiring hooked up with Voltage still going through.
The stuter tone is another indication of voicemail wating. |

Well, after I bought my new computer my Vonage worked just fine. It was that I had very slow internet speed when I was going through my Motorola VT2442 adapter. I will copy the tip that helped me resolve my internet speed. Hope it helps you too.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This tip came from xcrunxc:
It can be one of two things if it is infact the Vonage adapter. First, I have seen some computers that have a problem using the VT2442 as a DNS relay. This is the problem I have seen most often with internet slowdowns. There is a quick solution to this. Go to http://192.168.15.1 and log in with router/router. Go to setup and click on LAN Configuration. Find the box that says "Apply ISP DSN and SNTP" and check it. Reboot your computer and test your connection to see if that works any better. |

To clear some things up. On the Vonage adapter in the back where it says Phone 1 and 2. On phone 1 where my phone is hook up that is the port that was a solid red. It was not amber it was red. That is why I disconnected it. I have a cable modem and it is a Toshiba SN- Y004410231-74 MAC-00-90-83-43-4B-77 . There is no firewall on it that I know of and it is just a cable modem. The Vonage adapter is brand new because they sent me another one thinking that the old one could be cause of the problem.
My adapter is not hook up to my home wiring. The blue cable is hook up to the cable modem and to Vonage where it says Internet. The yellow cable is hook up on Vonage where it says Ethernet 1 and the other end is hook up to my computer. When I had everything hook up the Internet light on the Vonage was blinking. For a time the phone port 1 was a soild green but every time I would pick up the phone that light would blink. When I put it back down it would be soild green again. In the write up It said in order to make calls the power light and the phone port should be solid green in order to make calls.
I hope that this is enought information. It is hard to get help from Vonage or Dell not because they haven't tried to help me because they have but because I don't have a phone to call them. When you are trying to troubleshoot over a cell phone that you have to buy a card for it gets expensive to stay on the phone for an hour. I have a cell phone but it's a TracFone which you have to buy a card for and I have already bought 2 cards this month just to have a phone in the house so that is why I'm here trying to get help.
Thanks for all of your help. |

The phone lights will blink orange or may appear red when you have voicemail waiting on that line. |
