Hi,

I'm using the Motorola vt2442 router with two phone lines. I've had the system up for a few months now and everything is working just fine. I've never experienced one single problem.

However, the other day, I typed in my IP address in IE (the one provided by my ISP and NOT 192.168.15.1) and it took me to the Motorola (router) login page. Is this normal?

When I installed the router I just used the default settings. In fact, I didn't do anything at all but just plug the thing into my cable modem and everything worked fine.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Yes, that's normal. Typing in your IP address or 192.168.15.1 will take you to your routers login page.

When you set up your router did you secure your network? I.E., change the login password from the default "admin", disable your SSID broadcast, enable wireless mac filtering and turn on WPA or WPA2 security mode. If you have not secured your network, anyone within range of your wireless signal can control your router.

It's not a wireless thing, but I did just change the password. I'm relieved to know that my static ISP IP should be pointing to my router. Thanks for that.

Your statements about wireless routers are appreciated though, since I suspect that my sister's wireless router is not secured at all.

Again, thanks.

Yes, typing in your public IP address from your LAN side network will take you to the login page on the VT2142 and VT2442. This is either a bug or a very annoying design feature that has been driving me crazy trying to access other PC's on my network via VNC/Remote Desktop. This will only happen from your local network, someone outside your network will not get this login page unless you specifically went in an enabled remote administration(not on by default).

He is not talking about the default gateway. Read his post, he is talking about the public IP address. This is not something that happens with every router, and is something I have only seen on the VT2142/2442.

This is also the case with the Linksys/Vonage WRTP54G.

Nothing to do with his computer or cookies, this is strictly a device issue.

Agreed. This is not a device issue and most routers function in the same fashion. This indicates that like most other routers there is no support for loopback.
