First, port-forwarding is NOT required for Vonage to work. Even if it were, your configuration isn't correct. SIP and RTP-Audio, in the case of Vonage, is all UDP, and you were forwarding TCP, and as scerutti said, you were forwarding to the LAN-side IP address of the Linksys. All Voip communications are established and terminated on the WAN side of the Linksys.

If calls were being forwarded to your cell phone, it was because Vonage couldn't ping your Linksys, or maybe because your Linksys couldn't establish an outbound connection to Vonage. In your case, since it was behind the Actiontech and being NAT'd, they couldn't ping the Actiontech for whatever reason (firewall?), or the Linksys had no connectivity.

Scerutti, no device but a Cisco device supports IGRP, it's proprietary. Perhaps you meant RIP? Even then, he would've had to turn it on, and turn NAT off on the Linksys for that to even come into play for the LAN side of his Linksys.

Yeah, the Actiontec supports IGMP and it is turned on by default. I misread the label in my attempt to come up with any reason that port forwarding could have some effect. It is clear from Zippy's post that it is not required.

Hopefully this thread can put to rest claims that Vonage devices need to be placed in front of Actiontec devices, a practice that I contend is disadvantageous for FIOS TV customers.

I agree and will take that a half step further and say it's not optimal in any configuration, FIOS or no.

I work for Verizon and Verizon is now trying to upgrade their fios to 50 megs. Some places have the 50 megs in testing and so far so good. Just FYI!

Hello again, It has been a few days and Vonage has been working fine, calls are being received and calls are being made outgoing....no port forwarding is enabled or anything. just plugged the linksys rtp 300 into one of the LAN Ports on back of the FIOS/VERIZON Actiontec router and all is Good working Order.
My only suggetions if someone gets fios and is first time connecting all these devices together would be this.

*first connect the Verizon Actinetec router to incoming installed fiber optics cat 5 cable and let all the lights come on and connect

then connect your PC's cat 5 cables to back of this router and make sure they are all connected.

then connect your Vonage router to one of the other LAN Connection's on back of actiontec router,to the WAN connection of back of rtp 300, and let it connect

everything should be now working.

only thing I did do was,.. before disconnecting the Vonage rtp 300 as the first in line router, which was connected to my cable modem, was to go into it's setting's window of the rtp300 and set everything back to DEFAULT Setting's.

BY the Way: the FIOS 50 down speeds are available already here in south eastern mass, But not every town is ready, although my house is, but the price for it is way to high for me, so i got the 20 down/5 up for 49.99 a month, wich replaced my Comcast connection which was 6 down/350 up for 44.95 a month..was worth the switch in my opinion. while I was cancelling comcast, the woman told me that comcast does offer 16 down speeds for 52.00 a month, but I never knew that, as they never told me till cancellation Day.oh well I paid enough money to comcast in the last 7 years and all they do is raise their price every 6 months, so will stay with this for now, till someone has a better Deal. The Verison Fios Phone service is also available at my house, But Not the FIOS TV service, they are still working on that.

as far as the FIOS 20mbps Down/5mbps upload Speed go, not everything you download will be at the maximum 20 mbps download speed, basically because a lot of websites put some type of "CAP" on how fast you can download from their site, for example I was downloading a game demo from www.gamershell.com and it doesnt come close to the 20mbps speeds. I just post this info for any Novice user that are not aware of this and think that everything will be at the fastest speeds, I am sure all you advanced/Pro user's already knew this.
