some of this information was correct but it is no longer correct; Vonage has opened a couple of new call centers and their tier1 personnel have shown themselves capable of creating tickets for engineers and solving simple install problems, as well as features troubleshooting |

Argh. They wrote to me again:
| Quote: | Dear John Covert,
Thank you for contacting Customer Care and we do apologize for the delay in responding back to you.
We understand from your email that you're still having issues with your Caller-ID with Name feature when you make outbound calls from your Vonage phone displaying the incorrect number on peoples Caller-ID.
Please be advised that we've made some additional adjustments to the device properties of your Cisco ATA-186 and we'd like for you to reboot your entire network for about 2 to 3 minutes. For assistance with this procedure, you can refer to the link below as a guide:
http://vonage.com/help.php?article=386&category=44&nav=3
If you continue to have issues, please respond back to this email with the exact make and model number of your modem that you're using for your Internet service. |
I replied:
You can adjust my Cisco ATA all you want, and I can reboot my network a million times, but it will not fix the problem, since the problem when calling 206 and 360 numbers is not happening only to me, but to every Vonage customer. I have already explained this in the past.
As I told you before, just pick up any Vonage phone and make the following tests:
Dial 1-360-526-mnop then enter 958 at the prompt. Caller ID is correct only occasionally, most of the time it is wrong.
Dial 1-206-203-xyzz then enter 1-mno-x958 at the prompt. Caller ID is always wrong.
If I call these numbers on another carrier, e.g. Brxxxxxx, the caller ID is always correct.
You asked for the make and model of the modem that I'm using for my Internet service. My internet service is not provided by a modem. But the problem has nothing to do with my internet service. I have taken Vonage ATAs to many locations around the country, even around the world. I recently participated in the Beta Trial of the Vonage VT2542, and carried that to many locations to test it. I always also tested this problem with the Seattle area numbers, and the problem always occurs, no matter whether it is with my Cisco ATA-186, with my Softphone, with the Vonage VT2542, or with any other Vonage device.
The problem is in Vonage's interconnection with the public network in that area of the country.
Please correct the problem before you contact me by email again. Please test the problem yourself from your own Vonage phones, as described above, before you contact me claiming that the problem is fixed.
If you have further questions, you may contact me at my Vonage number, 978 xyz-mnop, during normal business hours. |

I was wondering if the other forum members who receive faulty caller ID from 206 and 360 Vonage phones ever received a satisfactory explanation (much less a solution) from Vonage. |
