I can still get the PAP2 in my local stores, but I can get the VTA off the website. Are there any differences in terms of performance between these 2 adaptors? I own a D-LINK router with the stream engine built in (a form of QOS for VoIP), so will it really matter? Just want to get the best one when I sign up.
Any advice would be great. |

If it's the old pap2 (version 1) then it's based on the sipura chipset. If it's the version 2 it's based on the same chipset as the dlink vta. Which is better? Ask 10 people, get 10 different opinions. I say go with whichever one costs you the least.
I have the dlink, even though I've never been a fan of dlink, and it works great. The majority of call quality issues have nothing to do with the adapter, and everything to do with the quality of your broadband connection, specifically the quality of the route to vonage's proxy servers, and vonage's network itself. If you need QoS, I would recommend a linksys wrt54gl with 3rd party firmware like tomato. I've been using tomato for a few months now and it's been rock solid. |
