As mentioned in #7, I am experiencing 1-1.5 second delays and echo when talking to anyone other than Vonage. Problem disappears when I call Vonage.
Problem 2: both Phone-1 and Phone-2 lights are on, even though I am only subscribed to only one line. There is nothing coming from the Phone-2 port, I tried connecting the phone there and got a "You may be connected to the wrong port" message. It's not a huge deal, but was just wondering if anyone else has had this issue and has found a way to resolve it.
Problem 3: The "Internet" light on the Vonage router is on when the phone is not being used, but goes off as soon as a call is made/received.
Currently, I have the Vonage router/VTA at the end of the chain (cable modem ---> home router ---> VTA). I was wondering if any of the issues have been reported as solved before by swapping positions and placing the VTA immediately after the modem (i.e. modem ---> VTA ---> home router)? I spoke to tier-2 tonight and the tech strongly suggested swapping the routers' positions. However, I remember reading either here or elsewhere the opposite advice.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. |

this appears to be a problem with their new firmware release.no harm with it untill every thing works fine.we discussed this a quite while before here and it appears a quite few people have this problem.

what is the model of your home router?try to connect the PA directly to modem and check if problem persist.if no and if you like to leave the setup as it is then good.if you want your router to be first then you have make qos settings on your router.if you have the phone connected to house wiring try swapping it.

Thanks for the swift reply, jayson.
I guess what I really want to know most of all is... is there an advantage of one setup over the other from your point of view. I set it up the way I did (modem --> router --> router/VTA), because I didn't want the VTA handling all of the load.
The home router is a Netgear WGR614 v5 |

certainly.if you are not using your home router for any special applications then VTA can handle the load well and good.
if you are not interested in that you can upgrade the firmware to your netgear and set qos so that VTA is at a higher priority. |

As soon as I switched the order to modem--->VTA--->router, I lost my internet. Nothing coming out of the router. Phone works, still have both Phone-1 and Phone-2 lights on and the internet light on the VTA still turns off whenever a call is made. |

Sorry, jayson, I forgot to update. I called Vonage the following morning and, aside from solving the router/VTA positioning issue, they performed several adjustments (lowering packet size, etc.) and that seems to have taken care of the echo issue. There is still a tiny bit of a delay and more of a delay calling cross-country (Ontario to BC), but manageable for now. We'll see how it goes. |
