Recently signed upto one of the offers with Vonage with Free International Calling and I can say I'm really pleased with the service.
The only issue I have is that the D-Link VTA isn't the most attractive piece of kit and was wondering if there is anyway I can use my Linksys PAP-2 which I purchased from broadbandbuyer?
The PAP-2 is the Retail N/A version (Factory Unlocked), so all I need is the relevant settings to input into the device. Is this at all possible? If not, will it be possible in the future?
Also, does anyone know if the BT1800HG (2Wire) supports QoS?
Many Thanks |

unless the pap2 is associated w/ Vonage, you cannot use it in lieu of your VTA |

If you register the device via the website, does this Associate the device with Vonage? |

well thats one thing to try - if it accepted the pap2's mac id, then yes, you can use that in your account but if an error occured, then, guess it cannot be used w/ Vonage. |

Vonage does not give out SIP admin details for their main accounts. As a result, you can only use "Vonage Branded" devices that have user keys and MACs already in the Vonage data base so that the device can pull the SIP configuration directly from Vonage without you seeing it. If the device that you have is not in their database, there is no way to add it and no way to use it on a main account - and if you have an unlocked PAP2, it is likely not in their database.
One alternative there is to use a Vonage soft phone account - where you can use any commercial SIP device that you want and they do give you the information needed (I use an unlocked WiFi phone). The difference there is taht the soft phone is limited to 500 included minutes, then they charge per minute (which is still not all that expensive - but not included). |
