Vonage with Tata indicom (VSNL)

HI,

I had got 2 VT2142 devices to setup in india - one at my parents place and one at my in-laws place. My in laws have BSNL and it setup fine with them - but my parents are having TATA indicom (VSNL) since BSNL doesnt provide good service in their area.

But before I setup the connection....does anyone know if Vonage works with TATA Indicom (VSNL). VSNL is a DSL connection similar to BSNL but I knew that Vonage works with BSNL ---- just not sure if anyone has tried it with VSNL

I am not sure if Vonage works with VSNL. But as it is a DSL connection. See if u could contact TATA INDICOM & get the Username & Password for the PPPOE setup. Most DSL providers in INDIA have the these configurations on the Modem Itself & Assign a Static IP address in the Computer with a Private Range. Even on Most Modems the DHCP server is DISABLED. This could be one reason why The second Adapter hasnot worked in your case.

TRY THESE STEPS :

1) Contact TATA INDICOM & Get the PPPOE username & password.

2) Inform them that u are going to connect a Router behind the Modem

3) Configure vt2142 with PPPOE Username & password. & Get the Modem converted to Bridge mode.

4) This will get u a good connection for the phone service

Please do reply with N/W SETUP, IP address when PC connected to Modem - both under PPP ADAPTER & ETHERNET ADAPTER Local area connections.

So..TATA indicom / VSNL does work with vonage!!!...thanks to excellent customer service representatives from Vonage...i must say...Vonage has provided really good customer service on phone...

i knew I had to setup the PPoE for my VT2142 but I wasnt able to get my parents to do it....so I asked them to call customer service..and they got it working...just wanted to post coz people just crib and dont appriciate customer service when they perform....i dont know the details of the representative but he was good...
