PostPosted: Fri Feb 09, 2007 12:03 am    Post subject: Factory reset on F1000 WiFi Reply with quote Back to top

Everyone comes here with very unique problems and troubles, and so am I. Here it goes...I read alot about doing factory reset if your F1000 dosen't go beyond "registering via ap" point. Doing factory reset for same did help almost everyone who were having trouble.
I have same problem as well...and so I decided to do the same annd guess what...A VERY UNIQUE PROBLEM...I dont have factory reset option at all on my F1000 phone!!!...surprising isn't it?!
I looked on every single menus and options on my phone in search of Factory Reset option...but IT IS NOT THERE!!!
I read in the user manual and on this forum about factory reset option...what it points to MENU>MISC>FACTORY RESET....
I dont have it there...here what things/options I found under Misc...
MENU>MISC>
VENDOR INFORMATION
PC CONFIG
REMOTE TFTP UPDATE
REMOTE TFTP SERVER
LOCAL TFTP UPDATE
LOCAL LOG
WEB AUTHENTICATION
Thats it thats all what I have under Misc Menu. But no "Factory Reset".

Now please dont tell me to call customer support, its really very frustrating and thats why I am here on forum for some help.

Thanks in advance for help!

- Did you purchase this device direct from Vonage?
- Does it say the word Vonage on it?

You are correct in saying this is an extremely interesting problem as I believe every version of the F1000 Vonage firmware has had the factory reset setting in that same location. Also, according to the specs for the Vonage F1000 you should not be seeing Remote TFTP Server, Remote TFTP Update, Local Log or Web Authentication on that menu. It is looking to me that you may have a non-Vonage version of the F1000. If that is the case then it will not work with the Vonage service.

Where did you purchase it from? I don't believe the F1000 is sold in any retail locations and is only available via Vonage direct unless they recently changed that.

I believe that UTStarcom manufactures the F1000 for several vendors, including Vonage.

They have a website for the F1000 at:

Yes, but the Vonage verson is a special version manufactured to work with Vonage. Vonage does not sell this device in retail stores and you can only purchase it direct from them. If he purchased it from anywhere except Vonage direct it is most likely not going to work with the Vonage service. Especially since his menu does not match up with what should be appearing on the Vonage version of this device, it is highly likely he purchased the non-Vonage compatible version.

Also, you say your has the Vonage logo at the back, well the ones I have seen say the word Vonage on the back not a logo. This make me even more suspicious of your device. Is someone trying to sell knockoff Vonage wifi phones to scam people?

Agreed. Vonage is VERY proprietary regarding firmware and hardware. In fact, in their "Terms of Service Agreement" a Vonage customer can only purchase hardware from an AUTHORIZED Vonage dealer or Vonage themselves.

If you purchase hardware from a non-vonage vendor, whether or not they are current Vonage customers that authorize a MAC transfer to the new account, Vonage will NOT transfer it and you have just purchased a Brick.

Buyer Beware.

I correct my words...It does have a Vonage words in orange color. I also registered its MAC address with Vonage website on my account where you can add another device. The online registration went through ok all the way. If it wasn't the Vonage version, the online registration of MAC address would have not completed probably. Am I right?!
Another thing, lets accept for a moment that this may not be the Vonage version but the "Factory Reset" option is like the "ON" - "OFF" switch...which has to come standard, don't you think so?!
Or are there any other way to do Factory Reset for example iPod and some cellphone where you can do factory reset with pressing and holding combination of buttons simultaneously!
There should be some solution to this!!!

Guys thanks alot for taking time and interest in my problem!!

One more thing I forgot to mention in previous post...when I browse through Menu>Misc>Vendor Info>Vendor Name = UTStarcom and Enterprise Code = Vonage.
One of you posted this (http://www.utstar.com/Solutions/Handsets/WiFi/) address which takes to F1000G page and this phone's user manual has the same options under "Misc" tab as mine!

Thanks again and look forward...

From the description at the top, it looks like the phone is a Vonage branded locked phone that someone tried to unlock by loading "generic" software, got part of the way there, and got stuck.

If that is the case, then there may be no good way to recover the phone as it was not designed to do that (and was, in fact intended to prevent that).

The Vonage phones show Vonage in orange block letters on the back - Vonage's "old" logo. Vonage phones also have the reset function in the menu that will then send the phone to the Vonage configuration servers to get registration information.

Unlocked phones to not have the reset function in the menus - but it is available from the admin login in the web interface. Go to Advanced functions, then to Admin, then Reset, Submit, and Reboot. A "new" unlocked phone will have a web login of admin and a default password of psw. A Vonage phone will have a password that came from Vonage (a pretty long collection of random characters). If the phone has that password in it, then it can't be reset without getting the password from Vonage.
