Hello,
I recently moved from TN to Chesapeake, VA and am keeping my same number along with my Vonage service. My only choice for broadband was a local company called Cavalier, and they only have DSL. I got my DSL today and it works fine by itself.
But when I try to wire in my Vonage phone adapter (Motorola VT2442) I have no internet and no dial tone. The power light continually blinks and I can't even get to the PA settings (192.168.102.1).
So my issue is: Is this an issue with my new ISP or with the phone adapter? I read some about maybe needing PPPoE BUT: I don;t need PPPoE login info to use internet browsers and I can't access the PA to change settings anyway.
Any ideas? |

VT2442 user interface is at 192.168.15.1, you are just using the incorrect address. Also, when Cavalier set up your service did they install any software on your PC at all? What type of DSL modem do you have(make/model)? |

Heh, thanks for the IP correction, I will try that in a few. Yes I did install a CD they sent me with the modem but it was a small app that asked for my IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway, which they sent me a paper with that info. As far as the DSL modem, all I know is it says Zhone on it and model #6381-A3-200... Do you think the CD installed some BS that blocks Vonage? DO I need to call Cavalier and get them to "unlock" something? |

Ah, ok. Looks like you may be using a static IP address then. Do this, go to Start-> Control Panel->Network Connections right click on Local Area Connection and go to properties. Hi-lite the line that says "Internet Protocol - (TCP/IP)" and click the properties button. If it has all the info on this screen from your ISP make sure you have it all copied down, then select obtain automatically for all settings on this screen, then click OK. Now, go to 192.168.15.1, login with router/router then click on setup then choose WAN setup. Where it says connection type select Static IP address, then enter in all the info that your ISP gave you at this screen. You should then be up and running. |

192.168.15.1 does not pull up anything. I can't do smack when I am plugged into the phone adapter... and I have tried plugging to the WAN or the Line 1 Ethernet. Maybe the Motorola is bad but I don't understand why it would be. |

You have to set your PC to obtain IP address automatically as I detailed above before you will even be able to communicate with the Vonage adapter. Also, ethernet/lan is where you want your PC to be plugged into. |
