Turn on my treadmill and my Vonage line goes down. Why? I've tried plugging the treadmill into other circuits in the house and does the same think. I've had to stop using the treadmill so as not to loose calls.

What's the deal. And, will a new Motorola Voip adapter make a difference? I still get Internet fine, it's just the Vonage adapter that starts blinking once the treadmill is turned on.

I would think if your Vonage adapter goes off when you use the treadmill then your computer would also go down assuming the computer and Vonage adapter are plugged into the same surge protector power bar.

We wouldn't want you to stop using the treadmill and get flabby, does anything else loose power?

Wow, this is an unusual one to troubleshoot.

Are the different devices getting power through different surge protectors? Can you try powering your Vonage adapter from a UPS that is unplugged (so providing AC power completely separate from your power mains) to see if your treadmill still kicks your Vonage line off? Does it happen every time you use your treadmill?

It might be helpful to know your settup. I.e., brand/model of treadmill, wired or wireless telephones, etc.

Here's some help for you, based on my knowledge of EMI problems.

Your treadmill's motor is probably right next to the Internet line (cable Internet line, phone line, etc). It is not always obvious; your Internet line may be go under the floor. The treadmill motor emits a MASSIVE amount of interference. Move your treadmill to another room, don't just use an extension cable. If you can't move it to another room, move it to the opposite side of the room (at least temporarily)

Move the Vonage adaptor as far away from the treadmill as possible. This include above/below you; if your Vonage adaptor is on the floor below the treadmill -- move the devices horizontally apart from each other so they are not near each other (including vertically through the floor: a treadmill motor is powerful enough)

Does your incandescent light bulbs dim slightly when you use the treadmill? If so, the Vonage adaptor may be sensitive to these voltage drops. Test out a UPS - at least to isolate the Vonage system. It may be a small voltage drop, so buy a good UPS/power conditioner for the Vonage system will preserve voltage for the Vonage system.

Without moving the treadmill, try to temporarily plug the treadmill into the UPS (if the UPS is powerful enough) to troubleshoot. Or try an extension cord to a neighbour's power outlet (with their permission). Or borrow a power conditioner/filter unit. If the problem goes away when you're using an outside or isolated circuit, you may have found the problem, you may need a power line conditioner to isolate the treadmill from your electrical supply. Also, just putting the Vonage adaptor onto a UPS, may shield it sufficiently enough from interference.

Easiest Solution:
- Physically move the treadmill and see what happens
- If this fails, try buying a power line conditioner or UPS and plug the Vonage adaptor into it.
