I just switched too... however in my case, the first rep told me he couldn't do it and had to get someone from "Advanced Billing" to assist. While we waited for them to pick up, he tried to sell me an 800 number w/ 100 inbound minutes included.

Advanced Billing lady switched me over in about 10 min, after she read this long script of terms. Here's my breakout:

*******************************************************************
Item Quantity Unit Subtotal
*******************************************************************
Activation Fee 1 $0.00 $0.00
Annual Residential Premium Unlimited Plan 1 $225.00 $225.00
Regulatory Recovery Fee 11 $0.99 $10.89
Emergency 911 Cost Recovery 11 $0.99 $10.89
------------------------------------
Local Communications Service Tax: $13.62
Federal Universal Service Fee: $13.33
State Gross Receipts: $5.85
------------------------------------
Total: $279.58

there is only 911 cost recovery fee and regulatory recovery fee which both are mandatory and youve paid them on every phone bill you've ever had. 1.98 in fees-lower then any company out there

Hey Steve, what fees are you talking about?

I would think that price is before taxes, no one includes taxes on a quote.
No, but Sheezhot may have been quoting a total.

Right now I'm paying a total of about $19.17 +/- for the $15 plan. Granted that $4 isn't an enormous amount of money, it does amount to around 27%, which is a big deal in anyone's book. Approximately half is tax that is passed on to government agencies, and the other half stays in Vonage's coffers as fees that they are permitted, but not required, to collect. Since the big deal with Vonage is low cost, I would be happier if they refused any "fees" and just set their base price at what they think they need in order to make their business work. I don't care for hidden costs.
Well 3 days later and still no luck. I even got an email inviting me to signup for the pre-pay plan. I am being told that since I am a retail customer (purchased at a store) 3+ yrs ago, they can not give me that plan. Has anybody else had this problem?

Can someone confirm that the pre-paid plan is NON-refundable if we cancel service at some point during the year?

It's customary in situations where you get a discount for annual pre-payment, if you cancel early, they re-calculate your total charge based on the normal (non-discounted) rate (x) the number of months of service used.

Here is what it said at the bottom of the email I received.

†One year commitment required for promotional offer. No refund for early termination. Automatic renewal of annual plan unless customer provides timely notice. Rates exclude: broadband service, regulatory and activation fees and certain other charges, equipment, taxes, & shipping. International calls billed per minute. Alarms and other systems may not be compatible. Offer valid in the US only.

Thanks, exactly the info I needed.

Given how much money is at risk vs. the small amount saved by pre-paying, I can't find any compelling reason in favor of it-- not without an escape provision.

Considering there's other Voip providers who offer the same basic package for $200 INCLUDING fees and V* isn't offering any sort of refund...especially with today's outage... I think I'm going to hold off on this one for a little bit.

Well, they've come down a little farther in their price. What the Vonage computer just told me was:

Quote:
Your New Rate Plan Choice:
$239.99/year Annual Residential Premium Unlimited Plan

Summary of Charges:
Annual Residential Premium Unlimited Plan $215.00
New Rate Plan Activation Charge $0.00
Regulatory Recovery Fee $10.89
Emergency 911 Cost Recovery $10.89
Federal Universal Service Fee $14.16
Total Amount $250.94

I believe that that includes all of my taxes for the year. So $215 now for the base price, and $250.94 (for me) for the "complete" price. That nudges Vonage closer to your $200 comparison.

(None of the above numbers in the above quote can be made to add up to $239.99/year, of course.)
