The basic plan here in Canada is $24.99 and the unlimited is $39.99 plus taxes of course. |

Yeesh. I wonder why it's so much more for you. Are your POTS services a lot higher than US POTS as well? |

This is a topic on the Canada Vonage site. I think a basic phone line with no options is about $25 plus taxes, I was paying another $20 for unlimited long distance but only in North America and that didn't include Hawaii or Alaska, and I have been to both. Hawaii is an expensive place to call. |

Interesting. A basic POTS line here is around $32, including taxes. I don't remember how it breaks down, but it sounds as if your POTS services are similar in cost to ours. |

Keep in mind there is a difference between Canadian and US dollars. 24.99 in USD is about 30 Canadian. While there is still a difference it is not as significant as it initially seems. Also, I don't think a basic POTS line is as expensive as $32 dollars a month. I hang onto a basic POTS line for my security system, stripped of all features and with some very low number of minutes and I pay about $8.00(USD) per month for it. |

I agree there is a difference in the exchange rate, but Vonage is doing business in Canada, and paying their employees in Canadian dollars. This fee might have been set up when the Canadian dollar was down around 67 cents, now it is at 84 cents. $8.00 a month for a phone line, now that is a deal. Here is Canada you can't get a phone line for that. |

Wow. The $32 is about what I was paying, taxes included, before coming to Vonage. That did include caller ID and long distance access (not long distance service). I can hardly imagine $8 total. I also didn't realize that any POTS carriers offered limited minutes on local service. And don't you need long distance access for your alarm system? |

I just dug out my October Bell Canada bill (last full month of service I had with them).
Residential line $18.48 911 Service $ .19 Touch Tone Service $ 2.80 Subtotal before taxes $21.47
I then paid another company $19.95 a month for unlimited long distance only in Canada.
I am getting a deal with Vonage at $39.99 a month, so I should stop complaining. I was paying $41.32 a month with no services!
If Vonage would get local numbers for my area, I think I could convince people to switch. |

Nope, it is a local number that it dials - no long distance needed. I had three lines with my POTS carrier, brought two over to Vonage and asked them(POTS carrier) what the cheapest plan they had was to put my third line on. They said they had a data line plan which was $8.00 a month and did not include long distance. Actually looking at my bill it is listed as "Flat Rate Unlimited Fax Line Service - Total : $8.95". I thought it was metered but it appears it is not. |
