Post subject: VERIZON number transfer question
I am in the process of dropping my verizon account and going to a dry loop DSL. I want to transfer my number over to
Vonage
. Should I do the number transfer first and then drop verizon to a dry-loop account or can I drop the account and still port the number without a problem? Thanks for your response!
Scott

Do't drop the verizon line. Call
Vonage
and tell them that you need to port the number from Verizon and they will take care of all the process. Then you call call verizon and ask for Dry loop connection

Question is, will my DSL get dropped and then have to be reset because of this? I currently have Verison phone and DSL service. I do know that Verizon offers a dry loop plan I can take advantage of... I have read that when the port is done they kill the whole verizon account. I don't mind giving a credit card to continue the DSL. I would just not like a large break in service... I still have my cable modem as a back-up though just in case until all is completed.
Thanks all...

I thought that anything other than pure POTS service (even DSL, ringmate numbers or anything else) on your legacy telco line would prevent the port from being possible at all. I would think you need to move the DSL over to a separate dry loop account on a separate bill before you start the porting process.
