I have no dial tone, but no problems with internet. This has happened twice today - it was fixed once already, but it's happened again. Here's my info (I have Comcast Broadband, in Chicago):
1. The exact network setup. Mention the make and model number of the devices in your network. -One iMac, Linksys WRT 54G wireless router, C, DLink VTA-VD adapter, Motorola MD7261 5.8ghz digital phone
2. The make and model number of your modem. -DLink VTA-VD adapter
3. The model number of the Power Adapter. DLink VTA-VD adapter
4. The WAN MAC address of your Vonage device. -where do I find this? The Mac ID is 00179AC09C45
5. The light status of your Vonage device. -All lights on and solid
6. Are you able to access the Internet through your Vonage device? -yes
7. Have you connected your phones to the existing home wiring? -yes
Also, first one and now both of my phone handsets have no digital displays. This has corresponded with outages - is it possible that because I didn't buy a phone from Vonage that the system has shorted out the displays? Now I have no Caller ID or phonebook. |

No, the Vonage equipment doesn't much care what kind of phone you use. Exception: If the phone is a two line phone, then there are issues with the D-link VTA, and there are potential issues using the VTA with home wiring. Do you have more than one active line on your house wiring, Vonage or otherwise?
It really sounds as if the phone itself may have gone bad. Start by disconnecting from the house wiring and plugging the phone directly into the VTA. If that doesn't work, try to get hold of a simple analog phone and see if that works when plugged directly into the VTA. |

Nope, we only have one phone line. Vonage has moved my port 1 settings to port 2, but that still hasn't fixed the problem.
And now I realize that no, my phone isn't hooked up to the house, it's plugged directly into the Vonage adapter.
Any other suggestions? They don't seem to be able to fix this, and our cell reception in our house is awful, which means I have to go outside (in Chicago in winter) to get a decent signal. I've only been a customer for about three months, and I'm already fed up. |

Have you tried a different phone? It really sounds like a non-Vonage related telephone failure. I can't imagine how the Vonage adapter could have caused the phone display to go awry. |

Thanks - the phone is working again, but the display is lost for good, I fear. They are two separate problems, but it just seemed too coincidental that when each display went dead, it was during a Vonage outage.
Even though it's a pretty new phone (less than a year old), I'm going to see if a battery replacement will help. Wouldn't that just be the kicker???
Thanks for your help. Hopefully I won't have another service outage again soon. |
