I have just received my connection package containing a Motorola VT2142.
I currently have a LAN already set up in my home. It has one free port on the Linksys router so this is where i want to install my VT2142.
My problem is that the green power light quickly becomes a red flashing power light when I connect downline from my router.
If I connect my VT2142 directly to my modem, my phone works fine. But then my internet to the entire network goes out completely.
On looking through the technical help in the pdf files that are downloadable from the Vonage website, I found that the connection address to configure the VT2142 is 192.168.15.1
This is exactly the same as I use to connect to my Router. It also uses 192.168.15.1
This leads me to think that the problem I have is an address conflict.
Any idea how to resolve this? |

You are exactly correct.This is happening because WAN and LAN of VT2142 are sharing the same ip.Here is the fix:
connect the computer to LAN and power to 2142.Type 192.168.15.1 in a browser and log in to the router with the same as user name and password.Go to setup->lan configuration and change the ip's there to some other network ie.,192.168.20.1.. and it should work.
Note:If you have any difficulties doing this change your network's ip to something like 192.168.20.1.. |

OK i figured as much.
Now how do I actually do it?
I connected my VT2142 directly to one of my PCs via the yellow ethernet port (no other cables connected at all) and powered them both up.
I typed 192.168.15.1 into my browser and got into the thing with the standard password and username then went looking around for some way to change it's IP
I found one promising place and changed the 15 to a 10 then restarted the VT2142 and the computer.
When I powered it up, the power light went red even before I had turned on the PC. I tried this about 3 times with the same result.
Next I used the reset switch in the vt2142.
At least now the thing stays on but I cannot get any kind of connection from my PC at either the original IP or the new one.
This thing is slowly driving me nuts.
Please help  |

If you already have a router why not get a D-Link VTA(no router capability) which plugs into your existing router? I believe the vt2142 is a router as well so probably not needed for your configuration as I understand it. |

Follow these step.
Your network:Modem->Linksys->Vt2142
Unplug the power to all the 3 devices. Disconnect Vt2142 from liinksys.
Now yourconnection:Vt2142->PC
connect the power to Vt2142, Open browser and type 192.168.15.1. Username: router, password:router.
Go to setup, Click on Lan connection. Change the subnet ip to 192.168.16.1, Click on Save and Wait for a minute. Unplug the power to vt2142. Reconnect the devices as modem->Linksys->Vt2142. Power on the devices in sequence starting from cable modem and waiting for a minute before you plugin the power to each device. |

I can't do that.
I managed to get into the thing once.
I changed the subnet to 192.168.10.1 and reset it
Now i can't connect to it at all and the power light turns red whenever I plug an ethernet line from the unit to my PC OR from the unit to my router.
When I connect to my PC it says "little or no connectivity" on the ethernet port.
The thing appears to be dead. |

OK I managed to get the thing reset by holding the reset button in for 60 seconds.
Then I could connect to it from my PC
I set the subnet mask using the instructions given by Naaz, reconnected it and now it all works.
Thanks for the help everybody. |
