I have had Vonage for about 2 years now and have been using the Linksys RT31P2. I have noticed some quality issues and was wondering if the new Motorola VT2442 has any improvements over the Linksys.

I had a Motorola 1005 so I don't have experience with linksys device. But I had terrible phone service with my 1005 plugged in behind my router. When I moved it in front of my router plugged directly into my cable modem, it worked better but would crash under heavy use and required frequent reboots.

I upgraded to the VT2442 this week and everything works much better now. With the exception that I can no longer browse web sites by name on my seb server from my lan clients. It gives me the router lonon screen onsteadof the web sites. See my other post for more info on this if you host your own web server.

Other than that the VT2442 is probably the best device going.

Oh, I have some errors in my status logs but they are very cryptic and I can't figure out if they are important or not.

I have a new VT2142, which is essentially the same ; the 2442 merely has more switch ports. No problems, excellent voice quality and works well in front of a Belkin wireless router. These devices are an improvement over the older issued devices and I would not hesitate to recommend either.

Dear JJaskolski:

Have you upgraded? I also have the RT31P2, and my wife complains of poor sound quality (delays, echos, etc.). My internet connection seems fine (checked it by various timers, etc.). I'd happily buy a new phone adapter, if it improved the quality of the connection.

Please post back on your experience. I am very interested!

I was crazy to think that Vonage would have extended a discount to me , but I was mistaken. I am not sure if spending the money on a newer box will pay off.
