I was told by a Vonage tech support to press *99 before sending any faxes since I have been experiencing many issues faxing. What does *99 do?
Some background info: 1) I have no landline 2) My Brother fax machine's modem cannot be set below 33.3kbs 3) Cable modem
Now, the same Vonage tech rep told me to send my faxes in PHOTO mode if my fax unit has this as an option. Why did he tell me to do this??? |

According to vonage.com:
Can I use Vonage fax service while using the bandwidth saver mode?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yes. If you are using the bandwidth saver option, you need to enter "*99" prior to making a fax call (enter *99 plus the 11 digit number). This will enhance the fax quality and prevent issues with your fax failing to go thru.
Can I use the fax service while using the bandwidth saver mode?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You can dial *99 + the telephone number to ensure high quality fax transmissions on a per-call basis. |

By reading the first question and answer, one would think it puts call quality at the highest (90 kbps) for those who usually have it lower, for the one call only. That's the obvious answer, besides that, I'm not sure. |

I was told by TS that it does two things, 1. set the quality to 90 kbps 2. Turns off call waiting (like *70)
