Has anyone ever had their number ported from Vonage without their knowledge and without their authorization? Vonage reps tell me this has happened to my number - I only discovered this by talking to advanced tech support after a day of not receiving calls. At the moment I'm frustrated, angry, and confused and am looking for any help I can get, as the reps I've talked to can only say the engineers are "working on it." They say Verizon has the number. I've never been a Verizon landline customer - in fact, the number is my original landline that I've had for 14+ years and acquired long before Verizon existed. It ported without a problem from Sprint over a year ago. At first, Vonage service was very spotty and I tried porting to Earthlink's service after three bad months. However, that service turned out not to support Macs and after much effort I was able to return the number to Vonage. To be fair the reps at that time were very helpful and my initial problems with the service seemed to be resolved. But now this. Can anyone help me understand what's going on and suggest how to proceed?

so your saying your number is being ported OUT of Vonage without your knowledge? if yes, its possible for your number to be ported out from Vonage w/o your knowledge OR w/o the knowledge of Vonage itself. its what you call slamming of numbers or freezing. even if your number is currently registered to Vonage, there is a possibility that "slamming/freezing" is enabled in your phone number. this feature prevents other phone/voip companies to easily get your number and pirate it. so you're number is being slammed back to your old carrier, hence your unable to receive calls because your number is registered to two different rate center. what you need to do is call Vonage and ask them for a purchase order number so that, if incase, other carrier bills you for using the service, you can give them that Purchase order number as proof that Vonage already bought your number Smile

Probably similar to what happened to me, the Vonage reps were clueless. Level 3 took my number out of Vonage's switch on accident.

These days, its almost impossible for that to happen. But nevertheless, it can be done. It is totally illegal and if Verizon did do it illegally they can fix it quickly. Call the Winback department at Verizon. They may be able to help you. The only problem is, you will have trouble getting through since your number is not in their system. While Verizon is a horrible company, there are some nice people in Winback. You might add you are thinking of switching to Verizon. Unfortunately they may not be there on Saturday. Keep saying agent agent to get you throught the audio response mess.

As far as Vonage is concerned in this case even calling the Executive Response team at Vonage may not help. Vonage uses a third party to port the number and there isn't much ability in all of Vonage to connect with the third party. They supposedly only have email contact. Is it true? who knows...

The Vonage LNP department generally doesn't have a clue either. And because the regular CSRs and the LNP department don't use the same computer system, what you request of LNP gets lost if you call a regular CSR and vice versa. Tech support may use their own system as well. Just keep reminding whoever you talk to where to look for previous info.

Geeez, I forget, the Executive Response Team doesn't work on weekends and the magic phone number, that doesn't get results until Monday either. The only chance you have is a Holmdel Supervisor. If you reach the Phillipines, don't even bother. Even the supervisors in the Phillipines are not trained to think.
