Can anybody please tell me how much it costs to phone Vonage number?, i'll explain, i live in Alaska, i have just subscribed to Vonage and so far i have found the service & Tech support extremely good, i chose a Florida area code as i intend to move there , i need to know what happens when my friends in Alaska phone my new Vonage number, are they billed as a local/free call or are they charged a long distance charge?, i have phoned my own new Vonage number (352 area code) using my cell phone (841 area code) that has a "local call only plan" it connects to my Vonage number no problem, so, am i paying for a long distance call to Florida or is it classed as a free local call , can anybody answer this please.

Vonage doesn't care where you (or your phone adapter) physically is. People calling you will be billed based on the rate center that your number is in. Since you have a Florida number anyone calling you will be charged exactly as they would for a call to any other Florida number (with the same area code).

That is correct, I live in a 613 area code, but there is no Vonage service, if my neighbour calls me then it will be long distance for him. Now for me it doesn't matter because I have unlimited plan.

Consider signing up for a virtual number in Alaska. Calls to that number will be local for your friends and will ring your primary number. This will save your friends a lot of loot, with minimal cost to you. When you do move to Florida, the virtual number is still local for your friends, but will function the same for you; being essentially a local call to Florida (from Alaska) with no additional charges. Check out "virtual Numbers" on your Vonage Dashboard.

Virtual numbers are not like your regular number, but are forwarded. They give remote callers assess to your main number with a local number. You can't call out using the virtual number, but the distinction is minimal because the two are functionally linked.

Check available numbers carefully to assure that they will be local calls for your friends.

or better than getting a local virtual number, take a look at the new v-access and see if there is a local access number here:

http://www.vonage.com/features.php?feature=v_access

then the people would call that v-access number and then it will prompt them to dial your Vonage number (the florida one) and then it will connect them to you for the cost of a local call, that is if there is a local v-access # for you in Alaska.

Thank you for replying, Seems i have a problem, When i ordered my Vonage phone i phoned the Vonage help line and ordered my service, i did not ask about having an Alaskan number as i specifically wanted a FL number,it never occurred to me that for somebody local to me here in AK it would be a long distance call for them even though they are only a mile away, i tried to rectify this problem by ordering a virtual local number here in Alaska, Vonage don't supply virtual numbers in Alaska, seems theres no way to solve this problem, unless somebody out there knows how,i'm wondering if i am the only person in ALaska to have Vonage service?.

I just checked the V-Access area codes and it's missing 907. It has 901, 903, 904, 908, 909, 910, etc. But no 907.

Sorry but it looks like your 907 area code is not available.
