I have been a Vonage customer for just over a month now and besides a couple of complaints from my wife about an echo being heard (i haven't heard it yet) and a couple of complaints that the outbound audio level is low (I haven't experianced it, yet, I am hardly ever home - 2 jobs) anyway, everything was fine until today. I have had no dial tone for the majority of the day today. Incoming calls go directly to VM, (I just activated the network unavailable forward feature). And in fact, during a call with my wife less than 10 minutes ago, the inbound audio to my house dropped off and she could no longer hear me. then... it died... no dial tone.. I had to call her back on her cell... and we all know... spouses can be very stern when they want to. anyway, as another poster once said
blink blink blink blink is all i get...... .4 blinks.. thats it..no more..no less.
cable modem --> D-Link 808HV RTR w/ port forwarding --> Moto VT1005 MTA. ... was working before...now... nothing... dial tone went bye bye |

Just got off the phone with Vonage Tech Support (is that like Military Intel?) He stated that my MTA is not talking with their servers. I responded with a "Nah... really?" He informed me of some knowledge that I was previously not aware of. He stated that some home style routers, even though port forwarding is enabled will sometimes shut off ports just because. And that was his reason for my equipment not working. hmmm i said... then... if my MTA has been behind my rtr for a couple of weeks, and port forwarding has only been enblabed for 3-4 days without issue, why did my problems start today? when they worked before? "Routers do weird things" ... this was his answer.. nice eh.. okay... I don't accept that answer, and I told him this, but I let it go. so, now when i get home, I am going to remove port forwarding, and see if it works... and then if it doesn't work, i will put the MTA back in front of my rtr to see if it works... and then if it still doesn't.. Vonage will get me a new MTA... and then if it still doesn't work.... woo hoo... SBC here I come... back that is.... |

Sorry, I should have mentioned that.
Rebooted MTA - worked for a couple of minutes then no dial tone
Rebooted Router and MTA - worked for a couple of minutes then no dial tone.
Rebooted Cable Modem, Router, and MTA, worked for a couple of minutes, then, you guessed it... no dial tone...
taking off port forwarding and/or reconfig the arrangment of equipment will have to wait until I return home.. that is past the wife's willingness to "mess with it" .. and plus.... she has a 8 mo old to deal with at the same time. |

Went home on Oct 26, took off the port forwarding, still no dial tone, put the MTA in front of the RTR... still...no...dial ...tone... nothing.... just blink blink blink blink...... so... i was starving... unplugged the MTA... went to eat....came back about 30 minutes later... and plugged it back into my network, behind my rtr, no port forwarding.... changed my bw saver feature to 30k, and now....dial tone... so..... tech support is not helpfull...at least not the people that i have talked to so far..... not impressed...not impressed at all ... (except for the price..and thats it) |
