Hi, I'm a new member of the Vonage community, just waiting for the Phone Adapter to arrive.
Is this true phone output of the Vonage Adapter (Motorola VT2142) could be plugged into ANY wall phone jack in my house and ALL other phone jacks in the house (in other rooms) will be Vonage-enabled? Or only the phone directly connected to the Adapter could be enabled? |

It *can* be done, but isn't advised unless done correctly. Better to use a wireless phone set (with multiple chargers and handsets) to cover the house. You hook up the wireless base as illustrated in the instructions for a normal handset.
When connecting to the house wiring, the telephone line from outside *MUST* be properly disconnected to prevent frying your Vonage box. There are tutorials available, but all that I have seen come with warnings and disclaimers concerning incorrect installation.
I would advise against trying what you suggest. |

Thanks for the advice! I do have a "base / answering machine" that serves 4 wireless handsets in my house but I also have 2 older "hard-wired" phones in use (so an easily accessible phone is practically in every room).
If I understood you correctly, Vonage Adapter could be "fried" if it is plugged into existing phone jack and no pre-Vonage phone service line disconnection was performed. Is this the case? If yes, could you please point to the tutorials explaining what (and where) needs to be disconnected prior to plugging Vonage Adapter into the "house phone net"? Do I need to contact my current local phone service provider (it's non-digital Comcast) requesting the disconnect or this is something an average user could do? |

Enter "disconnect phone lines for Voip" into your search engine to find dozens of sites for this.
Here are a few: Tutorial #1
Tutorial #2
Tutorial #3 (PDF)
Remember, when you disconnect the phone company line, leave a weatherproof note describing what you have done, so they will not reinstall. |

There's also a good tutorial at the top of the hard wiring forum here on this site. Pepperoni's warning is well taken, but once you've made sure that the disconnect is done, then things are usually straightforward. Many people have done it. |

I have done it and I know others that have. It works very well. Just make sure the land line is disconnected first. |
