I just noticed the Vonage Area Codes page is now listing United Kingdom, London, as an available virtual number. |

My friend lives in London and uses a cell phone with either 44 or 7930 as the prefix. Will she be able to access the virtual number as a local call |

Callular calls in Europe all have different area codes than land lines and it is expensive to call fixed-mobile or mobile-fixed.
For example, Vonage charges you .03 to call the UK but .28 (that is 9 times more) to call UK Cellular or other special purpose UK codes.
Expect your friend to be paying similar rates to call your LOndon number although it should still be cheaper for your friend than calling the USA |

No, we have different codes from landlines, although some Brtis and Australians say 'different to'

The trade-off is that we don't pay to receive calls. However as far as I know people don't pay to receive calls on cellphones in Singapore and Hong Kong, and rates to cellphones there are a heck of a lot less than anywhere in Europe.

If ever you have the misfortune to be given a UK non-geographic number by a company, try looking up an alternative geographic number on this site For example, if you need to call HSBC Bank UK customer services number, do not dial 011 44 8457 404404, dial the 'real' number 011 44 1226 26 10 10.

frickebob's friend will pay less than that, and calls to a Vonage London number will be included in free minutes. |

BTW London virtual numbers are out of stock. Note. anyone in UK calling your vitual number will pay for the call wherever they are even local so it is not free for UK people to call yor virtual number. You have to pay for the Virtual numebr as well. It seems cheaper to call the UK on your regular Vonage number, for the equivelent cost of the virtual number you get several hours of calls. (on a land line) From my memory phone calls in UK are much more expensive than USA and Canada! |
