I recently had an issue with Vonage and partly my fault. I was under the impression that if you have dsl you can use Vonage. that is what it said online when i signed up. however, due to my own fault apparently i did not realize that my dsl account through yahoo is through att phone service. so now i have no internet..can't use phone..and i read on here that someone uses a measured phone rate to keep their dsl. then how does Vonage work through that? I am extremely disappointed with the Vonage customer service as i have called three times today and can't get someoen to help me in any way. I thought this company was going to save me money. and i am told to get a cable modem..well sorry i am on a low budget income as i am a school teacher i am trying to save money.

It's really up to you to have some sort of broadband internet service as Vonage is an add-on service. I'm not sure what you would expect from Vonage, as they have little to nothing to do with Internet service.

Probably what you are referring to is "dry" or "naked" DSL. That is Internet service maintained over the phone line wiring without having telephone service. You would likely have to talk to Yahoo, ATT, or the company that provides local phone service in your area directly to obtain this.

Or, you could look into cable internet services. Although some are better than others, from what little I know.

i called my phone company and got a data line or basically just a phone line for my dsl. now how do i use that with Vonage. if i hook up Vonage through my dsl how will my phone ring at my house wihen someone calls my Vonage number?? isn't it all hooked up through the same phone jack? I am sorry if I sound dumb but i really am when it comes to all this.

DO NOT PLUG YOUR Vonage SYSTEM INTO YOUR HOME WIRING WITH DRY DSL!!!!!

Probably your easiest solution would be to use a cordless phone system with the base plugged directly the Vonage adapter.

If you need it throughout the house and require using the existing wiring, there is not a blanket solution. Essentially you will need to isolate the jack that provides the DSL from the rest of the house. If you choose to go this way, there is another part of the forum more devoted to such (Hard Wiring).

It'll still be similar.

The voltage in the lines supplying the DSL will fry the Vonage TA if you plug that back into the house wiring.

Is a cordless phone system not workable or feasable? It's just that would be the simplier solution.

It is possible to get Vonage to work with the existing house wiring. It does however take some steps and there isn't a blanket guide for doing so. A little electrical knowledge is also a plus. If that is the way you want to go, I'd move this to the Hard Wiring forum as you'll get more specific help for that issue.

I would suggest looking at this, and choose which Vonage adapter you are using and follow the step by step instructions.

installation instructions

Link has been corrected, sorry about that.

YES, just plug your cordless phone base station into the Vonage adapter phone port once you have it hooked up to your DSL.
