I have read on forums and cannot find an answer to this question. I connected my ip8100 yesterday, everthing went smoothly. I have a dialtone on my phone and I can call out , when I call my virtual number I get a messeage number not in service. I guess I don't understand, when do I need to use my virtual number? should it be working now or will it only work after my land line stops working. Question

Amazing, over 24 hours and not one single person is willing to give me a little help with my problem. I e-mailed customer service and they responded right away, I was expecting the opposite. Thank you CS

I don't know how much attention this side of the forum gets, but I'm not sure I'd have considered it an LNP issue.

OK most of this post is intended to be TIC. Wink

What I really want to post is I'm glad someone had a good CS experience? I'm usually skeptical on referring anyone to CS, so it's good to know your experience was a positive.

I have the very same problem and I'm waiting on an email from CS. So can you call the virtual number while waiting for the port or is it the nature of this beast for it to be a no go?

similar thing going on here. When I signed up I asked for my old number to be ported.

In the mean time ofcourse I was assigned a Virtual Number by Vonage.

WHen I call my new virtual number from my old number that I am porting it tells me that the virtual number is out of service.

I could be wrong but I think that is because teh Virtual Number has a caller ID that says it is your soon to be ported number. SO when you call other people form your virtual number thay will still think it is you calling fomr your old number.

So when you call your virtual number from your old phone line it sees its number attached to teh caller ID of your virtual number and thinks it is calling itself so it says that can,t be so the number must be out of service.

I don't know this all for a fact but it makes sense to me, novice that I am.

I do know that your virtual number is now identifying itself as your soon to be ported number when you call out, that is a fact. I am assuming that could be confusing to your soon to be ported number when you use it to call your virtual number.

Virtual Numbers are actually secondary numbers that ring to your primary line. We can set up a virtual phone number with an area code of our choice and when your family dials that number, the call is going to be routed to your primary Vonage line! It means you couldnt assign a virtual number for a non-vonage line.
