I just have Vonage for a week. I am in Markham, Ontario Canada (GTA with 905 area code). I have bad out going voice quality regardless of if I am surfing the net or not. Rogers is my ISP. Speed test shows 360 kbs up and 1757 kbps down. I have the VT2442 from Vonage and have it hooked up to my router (i.e. cable modem to router to VT2442). I use a phone line splitter to split the line connecting to telephone 1 of VT2442 to 3 phones. I was wondering if that can cause Voice quality problem.
Any suggestion on how I can improve the Voice quality problem ?

You should post the whole Voip test as per instructions.

Sounds like something isn't right, those speeds are very low. What does Roger's say you should be having for speeds? You can do another speed test at Speed Test
this will give you an accurate test of your internet.

I am not sure about those phone splitters. I am using a V-Tech phone that has a base phone with 2 additional handsets that don't require a phone jack.

I am new to this forum. I saw many reference to Voip test in the forum. However I do not know the link to it. Can you kindly point me to the link. I did a search on Google and there are quite a number of sites offerring Voip tests. Which one should I use ?
Rogers promise an up speed of 380 Kbps and a down speed of 5 Mbps. The speed I point out in my post was result from the speed test site. I know the down speed is quite far from what Roger promise. However I am only focus on the up speed which is up to what they promise and my problem is only with out going voice quality. I can hear incomng calls clearly. Only my friends are complaining that my voice is choppy and there are statics from time to time.

What to post when having technical trouble with Vonage....

As far as splitters go, anything is possible, but a simple splitter should pose no issues. As well, you'd tend to expect voice quality issues both ways if that were the issue.

You do have a router in the setup. That is something to consider as well.

One thing you could try is make some calls without the router and without the splitter. IOW, plug the VT2442 directly into the cable modem and use a phone connected directly to the VT2442. That might be good middle ground in troubleshooting.

Thanks for the info.
I have put the VT2442 before my router (i.e Cable modem - VT2442 - router). The router has DHCP disabled so it basically acts as an access point for my wireless PCs.
I ran the VOIPtest and the comment of the test results says everything is OK except that my QoS is only 34% and may cause some broken voice quality.
I know that the VT2442 supports QoS. But there is nothing set up on the QoS page yet. I am not an expert in the area. I was wondering if there is any instruction on how to set up the VT2442 to work in favour of Vonage ? I have not read through all the manual that comes with the box yet. A quick point will be very helpfull.

I just did another test. This time the Qos is higher. But the comment still says,voice may be broken at times. Here is the result of the last test

Download 1,491,680 bps
Upload 368,488 bps
QOS 74%
RTT 53 ms
MaxPause 150 ms

What should the QoS be for best voice quality ? and what should be an acceptable QoS ?

I want to add one more thing. The IPQoS page of VT2442 now has "enabled IPQoS" and "Trusted Mode" checked. There is no other entries. I have seen comments in the forum that the box is already set up , by default, to favour Voip. so there is nothing more I can do. Is that the case ? If I have to add an entry, I need some pointers to what parameter to put in the "add" page.

The QOS posted from the tests are not the same thing as the QOS setting on the router

A poorer QOS from the tests tends to point back towards the ISP.

Simply put, the QOS from the tests you ran is a ratio of minimum speed to maximum speed during the test

There is more info from the tests that would be helpful for you to see.

If you look at the install instructions, it shows to put the Vonage adapter after the router.

I have tried it both ways and I have had best results with the Vonage adapter at the end of the line.
