I apologize in advance if someone has already answered this one somewhere... But I am pretty much banging my head against the wall at this point...

I got Vonage directly through the website, so I don't have any retail activation issues. I've got the D-Link VTA connected to my Linksys WRT54G wireless router. The power, internet, and phone lights are steady on the D-Link VTA, and I can make crystal-clear outbound calls. The problem is that I can't receive any inbound calls -- when someone tries to call my number they get a "This number is not in service" message.

I've gathered from the Vonage website that I need to assign a static IP address to the D-Link VTA and then enable port forwarding on my router to solve the inbound call problem. I've been working on this for the last two days, and have yet to successfully put it all together. Here's what I've done:

My settings:

Linksys WRT54G wireless router:

Internet connection type: DHCP
Local IP address: 192.168.1.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
DHCP server: Enabled
Starting IP address: 192.168.1.100

D-Link VTA:

Internet settings: Static IP address
IP Address: 192.168.1.99
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway address: 192.168.1.1
DNS 1: 24.25.5.150
DNS 2: 24.25.5.149

I've enabled DMZ for the D-Link VTA IP address (192.168.1.99), and I've entered every Vonage port I can find on the Vonage site into port forwarding (21, 53, 69, 80, 123, 2400, 5061, 10000-20000).

I have no idea what's wrong at this point. Any advice on solving this would be extremely appreciated.

Is the message when people call you "The number your have dialed is temporarily unavailable?" That is the message you would get if your Vonage adapter is offline or for some reason not responding properly to an inbound call or rolling over to voicemail. If you are truly getting an disconnect message then there may be a network side issue on Vonage's end. Now, you say you just signed up, are your transferring your number to Vonage? Has the transfer completed yet? Did you already terminate your service with your old phone carrier?

Just checked -- the message says "The number you have reached is not in service." This is a totally new phone number assigned to me by Vonage, I didn't transfer it from another carrier, and in fact haven't had another carrier at any point since I moved here a few months ago.

check if you can receive calls from Vonage numbers.if you can then call them for a number change.

Thanks guys!

I got in touch w/ Vonage customer service, and it turns out that the number I'd been assigned somehow got ported out to another carrier in the meantime. They're providing me with a new number.
