NETZERO is a dial up internet is that right?
That will not work with Vonage.. If u had DSL already ask for Dry loop DSL from ISP that works without a phone line, or u may need to switch to Hi speed internet thru Cable internet. |

i feel sorry for that, in this case i reccomend you to request for a "dry - loop" / naked DSL internet connection from your SBC, they will help you. |

Vonage never canceled your internet you did.
You need either a naked DSL line or use cable internet, Netzero won't work because it is dial up. |

For AOL Dsl I am not too familiar with that, if it is available in your area it will work, but not sure if you need phone service first for it to work.
Naked DSL means you just have DSL without telephone service. most people have telephone service and DSL, but some companies let you have DSL without having phone service.
I would have thought that Vonage would have asked about what kind of internet you have. Also you shouldn't have canceled your phone without getting your vonage up and running and have it tested out, you do have a free month.
I would suggest you call Netzero and cancel that also.
Let us know how you make out. |

I would not recommend AOL DSL at all. It requires that you be logged into the AOL service on your computer to get a valid connection. You CAN get it to work with Vonage BUT it will not be easy at all and Vonage will not really be able to assist you with it as they say they are not compatible with AOL DSL. This is what you will have to go through if you want to get AOL connected with Vonage: Sign in AOL to get a connection, log into Vonage adapter, turn on PPPoE and set the username and pass of your AOL account currently logged in. Now, if you ever log off of your AOL account on your computer, your phone will stop working. Also, if this happens you have the repeat the procedure again and may have to play around with it to get it to work as it is not an exact science as AOL does not want you using anything but your computer.
If you want to stick with DSL just get a dry loop connection from your local carrier. It will be cheaper than AOL DSL and work much better with Vonage. If you are looking to get away from your local loop carrier I would suggest cable internet, it is faster than DSL and also works very well with Vonage.
Also, the reason this most likely happened is because you had DSL service with someone other than your direct phone carrier(yahoo). Vonage sends the transfer request to AT&T, they look at your account and check for any features that would prevent a transfer(DSL, ring master, distinctive ring, slam protection) as you did not have the DSL directly with they it would not appear on your account. Thus, the saw no problems and released your number. Vonage should have asked you about your DSL before this transfer, but most likely their sales team doesn't even understand what DSL is, all they know is you need a credit card and a broadband connection. This is also why they give you a free month to start off, incase any issues occur during a transfer or setup you aren't paying for the downtime. |

This is when you would need to make a decision then. Is Vonage(24.99) and a standalone internet connection(Anywhere from 19.99 to 59.99+ depending on what is available to you) cheaper than your old phone bill + DSL connection was per month. If it is not, you may want to look into going back to your old service provider and setup. If it is, then just pick up a dry loop dsl or cable internet connection and you will be up and running with Vonage. |
