Post subject: Unable to receive faxes from one number
Hi,
Using a HP Officejet 4300 All-in-One, I can send faxes OK, I can also receive faxes OK, except from one number. The annoying part is that this number is the most important one of all and the prime reason I bought the fax/printer.
Any ideas why this should be or suggestions to try??
Thanks
Nig

I'd recommend that you repost this in the fax, tivo & alarms section since that is devoted to issues like yours.

So can you shed a little more light on the issue?
I would gather that the fax rings and the machine tries to pick up. Does anything further happen? Blank page, connection tones, etc.
I'd also wonder if the other fax machine in the equation has had any other trouble.
You can block faxing from certain numbers on some models. That should be double checked as well

The fax rings, the message area says that a connection is being made and gives the fax number, then it just stops and says 'Receive Failed". As we have only recently got this fax, the issue of blocking a number hasn't arisen and we haven't inadvertently done that. The fax machine sending it has no problems as far as I know in that it is a business which sends out many faxes a day.
Could it be something in the settings I've overlooked or could it be something to do with the the broadband connection with
Vonage
?
The irritating thing is that I can receive faxes from other people but not this one IMPORTANT number.
Thanks,
Nig

I'm not really much more than an occasional fax user, so hopefully other can chime in with their assistance soon.
I'd like to ask another question as well. Or more clarification. With the number in question, am I reading it correctly that you can send that number faxes?
I would hope that it might just be an ECM or baud rate setting that needs adjustments

Yep, we could send but not receive.
We have, however, finally sorted it out!!!
We had tried the ECM and baud rate thing, but it didn't work.
We were on the phone to HP a long time........................... Finally, after trying a lot of things, the fix appeared to be to switch the fax blocker on. We weren't blocking any number at all, no numbers were blocked, there was no reason to have that on,but the simple fact of switching it on appears to have made everything work.
Go figure!
Thanks for any suggestions though.
