Hi,

I just purchased the new Vonage ATA adapter and will be using it temporarily in Pakistan. Technically Voip is blocked, but I think the latest Vonage devices are not restricted to selected ports and rely on random port hoping.

The ISP I use present blocks SIP ports and a test on testyourvoip.com reveals that it is blocked. When I connected the device to the ISP it connected perfectly have been able to sync with Vonage servers, receive a dial tone and am able to dial any number I want.

Upon connection I am able to hear the other part perfectly but somehow my voice does not go through. I am simply puzzled, I have also downgraded the voice quality to minimum but the issue remains the same.

Thank you for all your help

It is possible that they could be using something like packet shaping/detection to block outgoing RTP(VoIP voice) packets. The SIP port on newer devices is 10000 instead of 5061 like the test you ran was most likely trying to use, however port based blocking is easy to get around and normally not what ISP's who ban Voip are using. The port range you are thinking of is the range of 100 possible RTP traffic ports(10050-10150) which could also be getting blocked outbound by your ISP. Just to rule out other possible causes if you can provide us with your adapter model and your full network setup we can give you some further things to try.

Thanks for the quick response.

I am using a D-Link VTA-VD device connected to a DLINK DI-624 AirPlus ExtremeG router which goes on to the DSL modem provided my the ISP.

The strange thing I notice is when I dial *123 for voice-mail features it takes me ages to enter the password as I have to repeatedly punch them in, once in a while I am lucky to enter the menu and then get botched down as it guides me to create a new password for the first time, it fails to recognize the DTMF tones. I have changed phones with no avail, But as I mention it does recognize the punched numbers when I make a call to a number in fact I connect the the other party hear them loud but only if they could hear me.....

I hope this information helps, I am unaware if the other ports are blocked, is there a way to check if the blockade exists?

Thanks yet again

Just to add to the information - the results are appalling, as on a 128K connection I was supposed to get avg 90K upload and it hovers around 16K could this be the reason?

yes, judging by your test scores, your connection does not appear to be able to handle a two way connection. That's probably why you can hear them but they can't hear you b/c you just do not have enough upload bandwidth.
