PostPosted: Mon Jan 15, 2007 11:59 am    Post subject: Minor Problem with WRTP54G v1.00.62 wireless Reply with quote Back to top

Hi-
This is my first post here Smile
I have a minor problem with my WRTP54G v1.00.62 that if I do not use the wireless for some time, it will not be able to be accessed anymore by any of my devices and I have to unplug the power and plug it back in again to be able to use the wireless again Sad
In summary, I have to reset the wireless every few hours/days in order to use it properly Sad
Any ideas about this problem would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

I would suggest that if all your wireless devices are "wireless-G", make sure that the "Wireless Network Mode" is set to G-Only. Also try a different wireless channel...if you're using channel 6, try 1 or 11. These settings can be found on the Wireless/Basic Wireless Settings tab. On the Advanced Wireless Settings tab, make sure that the Power Level is set to Full.

I still have some wireless devices that's using Wireless B so I cannot make it G-Only Sad
However, I did try to change the channel to 11 and i'll check out tonight whether I can access it with my laptop.
I don't know what happened to the router but everytime I do not connect to wireless for a while, I have to restart the wireless in order to use the wireless feature Sad

You also want to make sure that the wireless card in your laptop is updated with the latest firmware.

Yeah I did
Well this is not only the problem with my laptop but also with my other devices such as Nintendo Wii or Sony PS3
If I didn't use my wireless for some period of time, and I come on to my Wii and I try to play online it says they cannot connect to my WRTP54G router but after I reset the router it works perfectly fine Sad
Is there some "timeout" mode I can set on the router that disabled that?

There is a "Idle Timeout" on the Administration/Management tab of the WRTP54G but changing that will not accomplish what you are trying to do. How long have you had your WRTP54G and have you always had this problem?

I've set up laptops on my WRTP54G that I haven't used for weeks at a time but when I do use them, I have no trouble staying connected for days at a time.

This happened from the beginning but I thought it's because of my laptop but now that I have other device such as Wii and PS3 to test with, I realize it's actually a problem with the wireless router cannot stay "on" if I do not use it for a period of time Sad
This is really frustrating and now I ended up using Wired Connection on my Laptop and PS3 Sad

Did you purchase your WRTP54G at a retail store and is still under warranty? If you did, take it back and exchange for another one. It very well could be that the wireless is bad on your router.

You'll have to contact Vonage Customer Service and let them know that the wireless signal on your WRTP54G is bad and you would like an exchange. There maybe some cost's (shipping and handling) incurred for the exchange so be aware.
