I had the same problem on my new V-Phone. The 1-2-3 instructions suggest you should plug it right in, but it froze forever. The fine print in the instruction book indicates that you need to activate the MAC address first. Once I found that and did that, it started right up.
Typical Vonage user-friendliness! |

Mine looks like it's using 'G and H' drives... so that should be all I need, right? Unfortunately, nothing's happening. When I run the software I see a brief splash screen, "Detected", "Initializing..." and then nothing.
According to Task Manager, VonageTalkUSB is running but I don't see a thing. I guess I'll be taking mine back. It's a damn shame too - it sounded like such a great idea. |

I got the 2nd replacement today and did not work . I called the tech support after about an hour they transferred to level 2 and waited for 1 hours and no one answered.
I suppose I need to return the V-Phone and try something else. |

Okay guys, I finally found the solution. The Vonage software does not run on any OS newer than Windows XP. I came to hear that they are still in the process of developing a patch for newer OSs. So all that you need to do is right click the autodown.exe file in Vonage folder (under your USB drive), go to properties, then compatibility and check run this in compatibility mode for "Windows XP." It'll start working right away! at least it did for me.
Hope that helps. Goodluck!

I've been struggling with the v-phone as well. I tried it on several machines including vista and XP machines and nothing worked. It would recognize the device, run the software, but you could not see the software. The only indication it was running was the 'vonageTalkUSB' process seen in task manager.
But after playing around I resolved the issue. Here is what I had to do.
It was a new unit and so the MAC ID was not assigned to my phone number. So I went to vonage.com and registered the v-phone MAC ID by moving my phone line to it (under 'add-ons' 'move a number'. With that step completed I plugged the v-phone into my XP machine. The software ran, updated the software (it was automaticlly updated), and then loaded/ran correctly. I shut it down and went over to my Vista machine where the workaround (run in XP compatibility mode) now works and it's up and running on my Vista machine just fine now. All that said, you still can't access the CD drive on the v-phone - but that really does not matter. That also means you can only see the MAC ID (name of the cd drive) on a XP machine.
It seems like the MAC not being registrered was the key, and presumably running it on my XP machine so it updated the s/w helped too!
Good luck! |

Having got V-phone to work I question the benefit / need for it. I can use the Vonage 'talk' application on my laptop which seems to do what I need at least and it has the advantage of not having to switch my phone number MAC address to the V-phone to use it. I certainly wasn't going to pay for both the V-portal at home as well as a V-phone that I won't use very often. That said for ~$10 (after the current rebate) it's not a bad price for the head set/microphone and now I can use that with 'talk' as well as 'skype' even if I'm not using the V-phone as a V-phone! My advice is just use the 'talk' application if you already have a Vonage number. |

this thing has been in my house for only a half hour and already i want to flush it down the toilet. there's a little card that say easy as 1-2-3. it has a step by step tutorial. nothing that it said would happen did. not only that but it also said that if there were difficulties that i should refer to the website listed above. nothing happened. not even a page. i got a google search result list of similar pages. basically i need my computer to see that this thing is plugged in and then begin uploading the software. any suggestions? i mean new ones? because tech support isn't going to be calling back for a while and i tried everything on the thread. (by the way, when i tried to "f:\vonage\autodown.exe", it only asked if i wanted to format it.) |
