I thought the VPN passthrough was over VPNing out to a remote site, not in. Is this not correct? Mine works fine. I've used both PPTP (Windows XP) and IPSec VPNs (Safenet Softremote).

Actually, I did have to disable the Windows firewall because apparently having the double firewall was blocking the VPN traffic but it worked fine after that. I've got my cable modem and computer plugged directly into the RT31P2.

Too bad that is the case Maaz. It seems like they should be a little clearer on this. Most of us who are going to be willing to try out this technology are somewhat adept in networking. I have to admit I'm a little bummed I can't host a VPN server behind this thing.

How about this idea...let me know if anyone thinks this will/won't work.

Using Server 2000/2003

Add another IP address to the servers adapter. Apply filters(through RRAS) to the VPN IP allowing only the vpn traffic you need depending on your VPN config. Then put that IP address in the DMZ on the router. Since you can filter out certain traffic according to IP you should be able to lock down that IP even though it is in the DMZ. This leaves you able to configure other IPs for whatever else you want to do ie web server etc.

I have the newest firmware version, 1.27.01, and it still does not allow inbound GRE. It does allow outbound GRE so connecting to a VPN server from the inside does work. I was told by someone on the phone that he didn't know if they were even planning on fixing it. Is that true? If not, when might they put that in? I am quite happy with this little router except that I can't run my PPTP server behind this router and I would sure like to.

I posted a customer support issue to Vonage 3 weeks ago explaining that I did my homework BEFORE buying the router, including downloading the user manual and checking for a PPTP passthrough option.

They didn't even bother to reply.

I have IPSEC working as well. The issue is with PPTP.

And in complete agreement with the user above concerning the misleading information listed in the datasheet/specs.
Any official response from Vonage concerning a solution/workaround?

I wonder what would happen if everyone who hosted a vpn Server and subscribed to Vonage decided to return their modems and cancel the service.

All 10 of them? I doubt it would even be a blip on Vonage's radar.

Vonage never addressed this issue. My solution (which I expect isn't feasible for many people) was to purchase a new firewall/VPN router that included configurable QoS. I put the Linksys behind this firewall and configured the new firewall's QoS to prioritize SIP traffic.

In the end, I wasted my money buying the Linksys to get QoS - I was unable to use it as it was intended with all its bugs.
