I am successfully using the Vonage router behind my firewall/VPN router without any problems. I was a bit disappointed to find out the PPTP pass-through feature was just for show, but based on my experiences with Linksys hardware, I'd prefer to have it behind a firewall anyway.
I use the built-in PPTP server of m0n0wall, a free Linux firewall for PCs/embedded appliances (http://m0n0.ch/wall). m0n0wall also has traffic shapping capabilities, which I've configured to give priority bandwidth to my Vonage router when calls are active.
It took a bit of tweaking to get it all working, but it has been working flawlessly since January (I got Vonage last November). If you need any assistance, I would be happy to help. |

As stated in my message, I also have it working perfectly behind my firewall. |

I just called Vonage. They finally admitted to this being a known issue. They are sending me a newer model router tomorrow. It may be worth a call. |

Willbizzo, do you have any more information on whether this worked out for you? I've spent more hours on getting VPN to work than I want to admit.
If Vonage is able to supply equipment (or firmware) that supports GRE protocol 47 - "supports" meaning "it works" - there are still users who would benefit. |

I just called Vonage Tech Support to see about a new router and was told that none of the Linksys routers with Voip supports VPN and that I could purchase a router on my own that supports VPN and move the Linksys behind that firewall: however, the voice quality will suffer by becoming choppy. I was told that Linksys states on it's web site that VPN servers are not supported for the Voip routers. I am curious if someone has seen this on the Linksys site and can post a link to it. I agree with one of the earlier posts that said that it is fraudulent to have this feature appear enabled on the router when it doesn't work. I am really questioning my decision to use Vonage right now. |

I found this FAQ on the Vonage site:
http://tinyurl.com/aerow
It suggests that, if VPN-passthrough is enabled on the router, you are able to connect to a VPN server behind the router from somewhere on the internet. I'm having the problem with this device that's described in this thread, and I'm just wondering if there's a firmware upgrade that's resolved the issue, or if I just haven't configured my VPN server properly.
Thanks! |
