Hello,
I did a search on this forum for tips on setting up VT2142 with BSNL. I am in the US and am trying to walk my folks (in India) through the setup.
I replicated every step mentioned in this link vonage-forum.com/ftopic17774-10.html" target="_blank">http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic17774-10.html , but the power LED keeps blinking.
sticky information
1. Your location - Udupi India
2. Your ISP name and type - BSNL (ISP Name) & ADSL
3. Upload and download speeds - Connection speed is 256 kbps (not sure what my upload/download speeds are)
4. Modem make and model - Huawei: smartAX MT800
5. Type of Vonage adapter used - Motorola VT2142
6. Setup of Network - Huawei modem---->Vonage Motorola VT2142 adapter---->PC
7. Issue you are experiencing - Power light on vonage device does not stop blinking and phone1 LED does not light up.
I have been trying to set this up for a week now, to no avail. If any one can provide a step by step solution, I will really appreciate it.
I changed the router settings to PPPoE , gave the user name password etc, clicked connect, and nothing happens.
I tried doing a power reset in order VT2142 and then the PC, but no results.
Thanks. |

Steve,
Thank you for your reply. However, they do not activate any special software to connect to the internet. The internet connection is activated when the existing modem is switched on.
I am detailing the setup that I tried while installing Vonage
1. Switched off the old modem and PC
2. Connected the old modem and the Vonage (VT2142) using the blue ethernet cable.
3. Connected the Vonage device (VT2142) to the PC using the yellow ethernet cable.
4. Changed the PC settings to DHCP.
5. Restarted the VT2142 ( power on) and then the PC
6. Accessed 192.168.15.1 and changed the settings to PPPoE, and other settings as given in the VT2142 manual. Set the BSNL user name and password in the respective fields.
7. Clicked "Connect"
Result
Power LED keeps blinking and phone LED does not turn on.
Hope this helps. |

if your modem is already connecting you to your adsl connection, then I would recommend that you change the config on your vonage device to obtaining ip address automatically since you are trying to login a 2nd time and it will not accept it. |

Try this out
connect> Modem->pc. Go to
start->run->type cmd & ok ->ipconfig.
Note the IP address, Subnet mask and Default gateway
Then connect modem->vt2142->pc
open the web page 192.168.15.1
username:router
password:router
Go to Setup->WAN configuration and choose Static for Type and give the ip address, subnetmask and gateway which you got from direct connection.
Unplug the power from both the devices, wait for 2 min.
connect the power to the modem, once the modem is booted up power up the vt2142. powerlight will go solid and also the phone light will lit up.
This worked for me, try this out |

Thanks to everyone who responded. My younger brother was down for vacation and managed to set it up. This is what he did
1. Switch off BSNL modem(UT-300R2U) and Vonage (VT2142)
2. Connect the blue cable(UT-300R2U to VT2142) and the yellow cable (VT2142 to PC)
3. Power on the BSNL modem and wait till the ADSL light is stable.
4. Once the BSNL modem is powered on, power on VT2142 (Vonage modem)
5. Once the power LED starts blinking, press the reset button ( rear panel of the VT2142)
6. VT2142 will restart and the power LED should be solid green and phone 1 will be solid green.
7. If you internet does not work, you might have to configure your PC to DHCP and reboot the whole setup (BSNL, VT2142 and PC) |

I was facing the same problem mentioned above in ppat1's first posting. Sticky information in my case is the same except:
1. Your location - Bangalore, India
4. Modem make and model - Huawei: SmartAX MT882
Then both internet and phone started working when I tried the
following:
1) changed static addressing to DHCP on my computer
[ for more details also see messages under the topic
"Motorola VT2142 not working with BSNL 256kbps ADSL
connectn." ]
2) tried the suggestion posted by naaz under the current topic.
This is a great site. Thanks. |
