I'm thinking of getting Vonage and have some questions. I run a linux router at home and need to know a few things.
How much bandwidth is needed? I searched around and saw some numbers around 90kbits/s for up/down stream, is this accurate? That is per phone correct? Is this number for the top-end highest quality?
I also need to know which ports are required to send and receive. What protocols are being used? Which ports need to be forwarded? |

Yes, 90k upstream for each phone call at one time. 2 calls (2 lines needed) at the same time, you need 180k upstream, and so on.... Yes, the 90k up is for Vonage top end quality. The lowest is 30 k up, then 50 k up for medium, and then 90k up for best.

From what I have seen in other posts;
53 UDP Only 69 UDP Only 5060 to 5061 UDP Only 10000 to 20000 UDP Only
Now, I just recently added these port forwards in my router, and in all honesty, I haven't seen any better or worse quality or functionality in my usage and system. |
