Hello,

We are currently transitioning to a Asterisk PBX system.

In doing so we got a softphone for testing..

At this time I can receive at least 4 simultaneous incoming calls from our softphone account.. And the calls seems to get routed fine..

Does anyone know the maxiumum incoming channels the softphone will receive?

Or if this is not supposed to work this way?

Yeah, multiple works fine. I'm not sure of the max. I've answered incoming while in another call and ended up in a 3way conference conversation. There is a "hold" function also, but I don't know where all the feature buttons are. I don't know the max number because of lack of experience. The free xten seems to have 2 incoming lines, but I think that the xten pro has 6 lines. (each has a numbered "active" light.)
The SJLabs phone is also capable (if you can find a suitable client for download), but I really don't know the details. They didn't have a Vonage capable download the last time I needed one, and I switched to xten for expediency.

The real need is for a Vonage capable softphone for PPC. I had to go to Skype for my Axim when I upgraded to Mobile 5.0. Skype has downloads specific to Make and model. Not my favorite fix, but it keeps my Axim out of the junk drawer. A great conversation piece in the coffee shop (free wifi) where the college chickies hang out. Quite dashing with a Plantronics noise cancelling earbud/boom. Some sweet thang is always coming 'round to check it out. hahaha.

Softphone is coming of age, the problems have to do with matching dozens of hardware configurations and the lack of free software to function with the changing OS's available.

Why don't you write up an evaluation for this group? There are a lot of people interested and very little in the way of instruction and tutorial. I'm sure anything you learn and can contribute will be helpfull to others searching for answers.

I have tried many different setups.. Many with very slow or painful success..

I ended up choosing a release called TrixBox
It is a bundled installation of Centos (Linux) Asterisk, FreePBX, and a bunch of other gui packages..

You can download a virtual machine version of it from there website..
http://trixbox.com

My SIP phone are GrandStream GXP-2000 We have 10 of them at our 4 different offices.

They are bussiness style PBX phones with 4 avaible lines for each handset and 7 extentions with lights to show who is on the phone etc..

you can score them on ebay for $49.00 a peice.. Once they are setup there are really slycke.. REALLY slycke..

Here is a great article on setting up trix box
http://www.sureteq.com/asterisk/trixboxv2.0beta.htm#10.1_-_System_recordings_
TrixBox

The trixbox setup is all graphical and web based.. So added feature like auto attendant voicemail more extensions are just clicking links on a page. Very easy..

We are currently transitioning from our exisinting Vonage account..
So all our lines are point to the soft phone account.. Which has unlimited incoming minutes.

Trixbox has the softphone account setup as a incoming call trunk. So from there depending on what our customer hits at the prompts the call it routed to the right people..

For the outgoing calls we are going with a company
http://www.vitelity.com
they charge .0149 cents a minute to terminate all our outgoing calls.. They have unlimited amount of outgoing channels so we will never be out of a phone line.

If our PBX PC goes down incoming calls are routed to the Vonage voicemail.. And we can still use our exising Vonage system..

That's about it..
