I recently decided to switch to Vonage from Southwestern Bell. I was pleasantly surprised when I got the email from Vonage that my number transfer would be happening only a week or so after sending in the form. In the meantime people could call my number and still reach me through SBC and a phone hooked up to the telephone line.

On October 13th, Vonage notified me that the tranfer was completed. But when I tried to call my number from my cell phone, I got the message "The number cannot be completed as dialed." I thought maybe it was an issue with my firewall or something, so I wrote it off for a day or two while I sorted that out.

Turned out that someone did something wrong during the transfer, and now my number runs off into oblivion. I reported this problem over a week ago, and all Vonage support can tell me is that they have an open ticket about it and are trying to resolve the situation. Meanwhile I'm missing calls every day.

I believe that it was SBC's mistake, but isn't Vonage supposed to verify the number transfer at the same time? I thought one reason you had to wait was that they were supposed to "coordinate" this.

Just wanted to vent a little frustration and warn others that it might not always be so smooth before I spend another 30 minutes on hold for no good reason. Here's hoping I like the service better when it actually works.

I had the same problem the day the transfer was to occur. A call to Vonage tech support quickly resolved the problem.
