Most of the people who are calling me are not technical people and either speak English, French, or Japanese. This way, I've simply said "Hello, this is [phone number]. Please leave a message." three times, one for each language.
What I find really irritating, and what confuses people calling me, is the message after my custom greeting. "[...] To finish press pound, to cancel press star."
Why Vonage left that garbage there? Never have I called someone's voicemail and heard such a message after their greeting. It's usually their greeting, then a "beep." It confused people before to the point they don't leave a message. For example, someone tried to call me and didn't leave a message. When I called her back, she said "There was something telling me to press buttons and I didn't know what to do."
We don't need such a useless message. There's a reason why we customize our voicemail greetings -- so the callers don't hear the standard one and know it's us.
After searching for an option to disable it, I found nothing. Did anyone else dealt with this before? |

What is confusing about pressing the pound key, AKA number sign key?
This is a common thing for voice mail in large business, maybe in your message you can explain what the pound key is. |

I'm not a business and all I want is to put my message without the annoying pound-sign notice. People speak and then hang up, like good voicemail systems. |

Welcome to the 21st century. What was simply before, may not be now.
Give the extra instruction if you wish to use the Vonage VM system. |

I'm asking for a way, if there's one, to remove it, not "suck it up and deal with it" replies.
Other companies don't have a useless message like that on voicemails. I don't want it either. |

Idea: Until the remedy is found and enacted.
Turn off the Vonage VM and purchase an inexpensive stand-alone answering device.
If anyone else has any ideas, please "write". |

Then I won't be able to get the messages via e-mail. I guess the 21st century is about technology, but not control.
I'm no longer watching this topic. I found the one linked below and, like I thought, it can't be done.

I called a relative in Nova Scotia. They are using cable for the phone provider, and they also have a recording similar to Vonage, except they don't need to press the pound key when finished recording their message. |
