As far as voice quality connected to a network goes - the speed tests recommended in this firum can probably tell you some of what you want to know (run from a PC connected the same way as the phone).

As far as having the phone register elsewhere - it should register and work fine via any "free open" access point. Any access point that asks for money (normally by redirecting you to a web page where you pay) will not work with the phone as it has no way to send the required information -- not to mention that the connection charges at paid hot spots is probably more than any calls would cost. In the case of a paid hotspot - the phone display would go to Registering via ..., then move on to "No Service ...". That says that the phone has an IP address but can't reach Vonage.

I have had 2 f1000's with BroadVoice and Vonage. Both required a factory reset to work. After the reset both have worked flawlessly.
(Level 1 can't do this L2 will have it up in under 2 minutes)

Its is my understanding from multi UTStar forums that it a standard function(although irritating at first) because they do NOT get as pre-configured as other Voip devices.

I personally love both mine!

Also when you first get it, its is partially UNLOCKED. If you get the factory Admin password/key and change the settings via the web gui you can activated it to any Voip that accepts it MAC address range.

Vonage will not accept anyones but their own and BroadVoice and others will almost take anything.( ONLY if you do this before it connects,registers or updates firmware to the vendor/provider you got it from)

In order to do the factory reset the Tech must give to this(factory password/key to you. (hint hint)
