Can't switch my old Number... But really want Vonage...

Post subject: Can't switch my old Number... But really want Vonage...
I really want to switch to
Vonage
but I can't switch my old Number. I currently have Local Service with Sprint and
Vonage
has Service for my area code. So why can I switch it?
My Wife is a realtor and has our home phone number on virtually everything, signs, cards, etc. Getitng a new number would impact her business either with lost calls or cost of getting things redone.
I tried calling the FCC to find out why I can't switch the number but I can't get a human to ask.
Anyone knwo why I can't switch it??? If I call sprint and ask will they switch it?? Any Ideas??

My local phone company is Verizon and I can't port my number either; I live in Michigan and contacted the Public Utilities Commission a while back when I was trying to port to Comcast cable phone but no luck. I sympathize with you; I ended up using
Vonage
as a second line because we're too steeped in our "old" number.
I did end up canceling my long distance plan and reducing some features from my Verizon line...a little bit of savings and now unlimited long distance.

I have tried three times now to switch my phone number by faxing the letter of authorization and current phone bill (a total of three times to two different
Vonage
fax numbers). All I get back is the form is not on file and to try and re-fax it again. My first fax was October 6, the second was October 10 and the last time was October 15. The on-line status shows the LOA was received October 20. I got an E-Mail tonight (October 21) again stating that necessary paperwork was not on file.
I am also trying to establish 911 service without any luck either. After two attempts all I get back is that my address failed their address verification process.
I love the service and the cost, but customer support and ability to fix anything is non-existant.
I will give it a few more days.
