No carrier pushes CallerID name out into the PSTN.
Most carriers register the Caller Name for their phone numbers with a database service. Vonage does not do this.
The receiving telephone company uses the Calling Number received as the call arrives to do a lookup in a database service of their choice, which may or may not include all of the databases with which originating companies have registered their customers.
For this reason, a Vonage (or QWEST or AT&T or...) customer receiving a call from a POTS line may see a different name than a Verizon customer receiving a call from the same POTS line.
