Hi All,

Is there any way we can change the SoftPhone Application with the VPhone?

I'd like to be able to switch between headset and speakerphone while using the VPhone and Tech support says that there is no way at this time.

However, I have found many SoftPhone applications that have this simple capability and was wonderfing if there was any way to use another SoftPhone Application with the VPhone.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Cheers,
Marcello Lisi

Check the newest Cyberphone handsets. I believe there is a built in speakerphone. You can switch from the handset. I will locate the specs and post it for you. I think that I saw several brands with this feature.

Ok, one of the available USB speakerphones is here:
Cyberspeaker

I use the CyberphoneK model (no speakerphone) Sound quality is exceptional. It is digital, so it bypasses your onboard sound card and does not tie up your audio resources for Voip calls. (translating digital through an analog sound card, for instance)

I have seen other usb speakerphones, but I have no interest in a speakerphone, so I am not well informed. Do a search to find the best price. Prices vary widely.

Pepperoni, thanks for the handset information. Are you also saying by your response that you cannot use an alternate softphone software? If not, does anyone else know?

I'm mot familiar with VPhone. I use the softphone on my PC, with the CyberphoneK handset. It is a fine digital handset with excellent voice quality. I Recommend the Vonage Softphone for fixed-location PC use. I'm currently using the Xten software with good results.

I think you are asking if you can load another softphone onto the VPhone. I've read that it does have storage capacity, but I don't know if other software can be configured to work with your VPhone number. It may have the logon info tied to the VPhone software, somehow.

If you had Vonage Softphone, instead; You could merely load your softphone software and enter your number and password to use on any machine. *** only one instance can be run at a time; when I leave home, I merely make sure the home installation is not running. Then I can load and run my softphone from another machine.

You cannot use an alternate soft phone on your PC with a Vphone stick. Most (all??) soft phone applications require that you know your SIP details in order to set up the soft phone. V-Phone is designed so that you don't know these - the SIP account information is downloaded directly from Vonage to the stick, you never see it.

If you had a soft phone account - where Vonage gives you the SIP details, then you could use any application you wanted - but NOT the V-Phone since there is no way to put this SIP information into the application (same problem, opposite direction).

This not a technical limit - it is the Vonage ongoing policy to not give SIP information out on unlimited accounts. If you wanted a V-Phone account and had your SIP information, you could simply use the soft phone application and not worry about the USB stick.

I expect that this is to prevent "sharing" of unlimited accounts, though other services seem to take different approaches to this.
