Just wondering if anyone else has this problem with the Linksys WRTP54G Voip router. I just switched to this model and ever since I have a 3-5 sec delay in the dial tone, and a 3-5 sec delay when answering a call to the time the caller can hear me. I work for an ISP in the Voip department, so I'm sure everything is ok with my internet service and home network setup.

I'm waiting for a response from Vonage but I'm just curious if anyone else has this problem.

I haven't heard of these exact symptoms, but I have heard of the delay when answering for early versions of the firmware.

Vonage just switched me over to use line 2 on the router but that didn't help....same delay times.

Anyone out there have this issue?

Maybe I just got a bad router.

even though it is not an issue that is happening during the entire call, sometimes having the jitter buffer or packetization period "tweaked" by Vonage & having your bandwidth saver adjusted will correct this issue. if not entirely at least to an acceptable level.

Did you ever have this issue prior to the WRTP54G? I had experienced in the past the delay in answering when I would make an outbound call...the person I was calling would have said hello at least twice before I heard them ( I never had this issue with inbound calls). Vonage had to change the way my calls were being routed through their servers. Once this change was implemented, I no longer had this issue.

If you can, pick up another WRTP54G at a local retail store and see if you have this same issue or if its just specific to the router that you already have. If the problem is identical to the router that you already have, return the WRTP54G for your refund. You will then need to contact Customer Service and explain to them the delay issues you are having.

I just got a WRTP54G and switched my land line phone ported over to Vonage. I too am seeing problems that are being described here.

My WRTP54G is firmware 1.00.62.

I observe that at times, the WRTP54G has the phone light go out. When I pick up the receiver, all I have is dead air.

Other times, when I pick up the receiver, i wait 3-4 seconds before I get a dial tone and the light starts to flicker for the phone.

Does the phone portion of the WRTP54G go to sleep? That is what it seems to be doing.
